I assume I'm using the right program to strip the audio from an AVI file convert to wav before re converting to VOB. The audio is missing if I try it just with other conversion progs. Others have helped me so far and I managed one conversion more by accident than design. When I open VDM I get a File menu which doesn't mention audio let alobe .wav it all seems to be about video.

In simple terms what actually do I do to achieve a seperate .wav file from an AVI file. I currently have one running and have the input and output video running and the status seems to be telling me the size of the audio file which is going up. HELP!

    Click Streams, stream list.
RIGHT click your audio stream, click Full Processing Mode.
    Click Save .WAV

...and yes it is that simple...doh!

I have just downloaded VirtualDub (not mod) which has a way of doing it that matches what others have been trying to help me with. When I've been telling them I was using even though I had been using VDMod. Couldn't understand why they kept saying "File _ Wav...save. I couldn't find it. Now I know why...

    Double DOH! but thanks Jim

Yeah, vdubmod is a little different.
I use it because it will accept mpg as well as avi. The regular vdub only takes avi.

VirtualDub can open mpg's. Just not ones containing mpeg2.

celtic_d I must admit, I've never tried it with VCD (mpeg-1) sources.

Used VD to extract wav, TMPGE to encode (?) them to Mpeg DVD/PAL. (In Sky's case a 4.2gb file so perfect)

Then Canopus to change to IFO for burning with CopytoDVD

Takes a while of course but well worth the wait
