First off a LG® is not a Samsung®! No matter who tries to tell you otherwise! The Samsung® DVD is still the best one out there. The LG® (The One I happen to own 'Stock' on my XBOX™!), is average at best. And, no it can not read CD-R's only CD-R\W's! Although this looks like it might be able to, in that it's a PC-DVD mod job, like the 616T!

As for FTP I'm not sure I'm with you on this? If you were thinking of adding this to your PC. You'd likely be in for disapointment. As the DVD Drive in you PS can also read XBOX™ DVD's...

It's Windows that CAN NOT READ XBOX™ DVD's!! As Windows can not read the XDFS ~XBOX™ DVD File Format~.

My guess is this Drive is beeing sold as a replacement part for older XBOX's™...

**EDIT** Besides it clearly says in the disclamer that the Bezel/Faceplate is not included so you'd only have the drive with no XBOX™ Door on it...

okay that helps, but if its windows that can't read it what stops people from making software to read it, is it just noone cracked the code yet or what?

Well I can only immagine how difficult it would be to write up a whole new Filesystem ~for Windows~. Think of Microsofts' new WFS Filesystem that was sopposed to be released with (Longhorn), Vista. And there Pros'!!

The only other reasion why, might be is because even the stuff on the XBOX™ HDD is also in it's own Fileformat which has been emulated somewhat. it's just simpler and easier to just get a second NIC Card and a leangh of CAT-5E Crossover Cable and forget about it!

Looks like I might have spoken a bit to soon by this report from www.xbox-scene.com

    TheSpecialist's Xbox DVD-Drive 'Unlocker' Code
    >> TheSpecialist emailed us about a tool he released that unlocks an (original) Xbox DVD-ROM drive, attached to a PC, so you can access an original DVDXBOX disc from PC (using tools like Clone CD (yes it'll report many bad sectors, that's normal) without having to FTP to your modded Xbox.
Of course you must use the Xbox DVD-drive (it won't work with a normal PC DVD drive). Easiest to test this is probably to connect the IDE-cable of your Xbox DVD-drive to your PC and keep the cable for power/eject connected to the Xbox (if you want to install it fix in your PC you'll have to convert the cable, here's a pinout).
Also note that Windows must be able to detect your Xbox drive. Some Xbox drives (like the Philips) seem to be not detectable by Windows.
Once the drive is connected and detected you can use this tool to unlock the drive to read original DVDXBOX discs.

The Unlocker is the result of some very technical discussion over at xboxhacker.net about the Xbox(360) DVD firmware:

Well theres an App for XBOX™ called quix! That's way faster then normal FTP. Also I think most Dashboards prefer Flash FXP then say CuteFTP. I forget which but if you can use the boost mode on Avalaunch it's best to do so...
