Hi, As rumors still spread on the internet about Toshiba is going to stop making players and just sell there remaining ones. I tried to call Toshiba HD DVD Support, but they were closed because of weekened. I will call them on Monday. If these rumors are true and after all the money I have invested in my Player and Many movies, I will Never buy any Toshiba product again. And I suggest you do the same.............. Thank You.
You didn't waste any money ofield. You have an excellent up converter - one of the best on the market and it can also play all the other 500 HD DVD's available! Another great thing about all this is all the sales on HD DVD media. Check out DeepDiscount for some excellent prices on HD DVD. I never really bought into the idea of "repurchasing" all the movies I own on SD DVD unless, the transfer was done really well. Now it looks like an excellent time buy all those movies that I hadn't seen any reason to purchase. Fear and Loathing, here I come!
o field don;t be sad and down the movies of hddvd u can convert into bluray in future and keep ur originals as back up i think thats what sony is going to do anyway(converting all hddvd to blurays)thay don't re master
Either way i think your safe mate, there will always be support for your machine in the hardware department, customer services etc. Am glad now i didnt buy the HDDVD add on for the 360...
ofield, My son phoned me the other day, asking if I was returning my Toshiba. My reply was "why on earth would I want to do that? I knew fully well what was happening when I purchased it." I have invested a lot of money in SD dvds, and my A35 does an amazing job of upconverting. Both the player and my plasma (deciding factor against an Oppo) are capable of 1080p/24fps. I use the 5.1 analog inputs into my receiver (no hdmi connection). Regrets? Never!
Really? I suggest boycotting Sony whose coercion and payoffs (and not to mention their on going copyguard efforts and rootkits) is really the culprit. Toshiba provided a fine, reasonably priced HD product with picture quality of the highest order.
I also intend to hang on to my hddvd player and am looking to buy more hddvds. I'm format neutral (have both) but have found that the hddvds play with fewer problems than my blu-rays. Also, how many think the ps3(and blu-ray discs) will be going up in price now that sony has "won"? Why sell a console + blu-ray player for the same price as a stand alone player?
