Hey all, I backed up my copy of Blade 2 the other day and had to split it over two discs (I'm on OS 9.2 by the way, and there's no shrinking tools for OS9). Anyway, I split the movie over two discs but when I checked disc 2 I found the audio was out of sync. I managed to fix it though - wanna know how? Read on.... Firstly, you'll need "mAC3dec" (which you can download over the web) plus "A.Pack" (included with DVD Studio Pro 1.5) Okay, so here goes.... 1) Open mAC3dec application, go to file, choose 'open AC3 file' 2) Open the AC3 file from the 2nd disc 3) In the main window click the 'split channels' tick box 4) Select 48khz from the 'sample rate' drop menu 5) Select AIFF from the 'format' drop menu 6) Click start After it has finished you'll end up with 5 AIFF files. One for the Left Channel, one for the Right, one for the Centre, one for Left Surround and one for Right Surround. Open up your favourite audio application which allows manipulation of AIFF soundwaves (I use Sound Studio Classic, you can download a demo from the web which does the job). Open up each of the AIFF files and delete however much audio from the start that your audio is out of sync by. It's sometimes a case of trial and error (I deleted 0.25 seconds from the start of each of the AIFFs and the audio is spot-on). Be careful to make sure you delete the same amount of time from each of the AIFFs. Save these AIFFs over the old ones. Next, open up A.Pack 1) In the left box where you see the surround sound images, click on each of the channels one by one (left, centre, right, left surround & right surround) and import the relevant aiff file to the channel. 2) Click encode. 3) Once it has saved, replace the old AC3 file with this new one. 4) That's it! Now open DVD Studio Pro and prepare your back-up as normal, checking preview to make sure your editing has worked. I know it seems a long winded way to get out of sync audio back on track but for OS 9 users I don't think there's any other way. Plus, once you've fixed it, the feeling of self-satisfaction is immense!!! If anyone has problems with this method let me know by adding a reply to this post and I'll try to help you through it.
Right on, man! way to go... My audio was out of sync, so I read your post. Sadly, I use OS X 10.2.6 and none of the expensive software suites. I use OSeX and Sizzle. If you happen to be X savvy as well, maybe you can help. Basically, my problem is identical; most of my DVD backups are fine, but occasionally disc 2 has an audio delay of .25 secs (or thereabouts). I DO have mAC3dec, so I can split the audio stream. However, I don't have DVD Studio Pro 1.5 (or A.Pack). Is there some alternative method you might recommend? Thanks for your post! Cheers for the kind words my friend! Sadly, I'm not X-savvy yet, and I'm afraid that I don't know of any alternatives. Why don't you reset your machine to 'classic' mode and try to 'acquire' DVD Studio Pro 1.5 from someone. Alternatively, scour the web to find an OSX app which will encode AIFF to AC3. Good luck! P.S. Yep, you're right. There's hardly any audio sync help sites out there. I pretty much had to work it out myself!
As far as audio & video manipulation tools, you might want to try out MPEG2Works - I'm not 100% sure offhand if it will help you in this specific problem, but it sure has a lot of useful tools for just about anything els conversion-wise. your strategy is helpless for people who's audio SLOWLY goes more and MORE out of sync!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine anyone have a tip for me? i have winxp and ulead videostudio 7 se dvd, and winfast 2000xp deluxe PVR WMV encoding's FINE, but everything else goes out of sync. mind you, it is fine for about a minute, after which it gets more and more noticeable, until 5 minutes through, it's about a second off.
