I'm having an issue with my sony DRU720a burning dvd's. I've had the drive for about a month now and have made probably somewhere around 35 or 40 dvd copies. Yesterday i was burning and the electricity went off while i was in the middle of the burn. And since i havn't been able to burn anything using Nero. I have the latest firmware on the dvd drive, latest nero, reinstalled windows and nero after this happened. been using the same media but am getting the below error log. I also went to sony's website and got a drive check program and it seems to have an error with that program where it won't finish burning. Here is the nero log Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 6:35:34 PM Nero API version: 6.6.0.15 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 15h Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-720A> Version: JY03 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.15 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD400BB-75CLB0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-720A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : SONY CD-RW CRX230ED atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === SONY DVD RW DRU-720A E: CDRom0 SONY CD-RW CRX230ED F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 40894464 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 255MB (261132kB) Free physical memory: 77MB (79148kB) Memory in use : 69 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 31.7.2005 NeroAPI 11:19:19 AM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation started 11:19:19 AM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 11:19:20 AM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files sorted 11:19:20 AM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 11:19:20 AM #5 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer SONY DVD RW DRU-720A running 11:19:20 AM #6 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 842 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 11:19:20 AM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 11:19:20 AM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 11:19:20 AM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3231 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 11:19:44 AM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 269 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2287855 (508:24.55, 4468MB) 11:19:44 AM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 281 Write in overburning mode: NO 11:19:44 AM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2477 Recorder: SONY DVD RW DRU-720A, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: MCC 03 - RG20 Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 11:19:44 AM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 447 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= Insert empty disc to write to. @talbritt - - 256MB is insufficient for Windows XP, never mind dvd work on top. get more memory, your hard disc will be 'swapping' - you're burning to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB is Shrink's preferences - these appear to be Verbatim 16x - what happened there ? - that certainly doesn't look right. hmmm.... - splat! - whoa where's the rush!, slow it down to 4x i wonder if your firmware's corrupted ?
that's what i was wondering is if the firmware might be corrupted. is there any way to reinstall the old firmware?
you can but try... not sure if you can do an 'eeprom reset' on that particular drive. do a search on afterdawn, then on google, it gets mentioned a fair bit..
just thought i was seeing things while going thru some of the other forums - you've multiposted across the forums, am gonna have to ask a moderator to close 2 of them.... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/216394 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/216386
I was able to find my old firmware on the net and reflashed it to the original factory firmware. and then tried to burn using nero again. and again i came up with the same error. It doesn't seem to be the nero software because the drive check utility from sony won't write either. Any suggestions?
just what i suggested before - ie not sure if you can do an 'eeprom reset' on that particular drive. do a search on afterdawn, then on google, it gets mentioned a fair bit..
I had the same issue with NERO and my Sony 710A burner and DVD-R discs. It would write to DVD+R no problems. The problem was I also had Roxio Easy CD/DVD creator installed. I know that it and NERO does not sit well on the same PC togather. So I finally uninstalled Roxio. Pow! No more illegal disc errors on DVD-R discs. If you have Roxio perhaps this may also be your issue.
Thanks, i formatted my hdd and started over from scratch and still had the error. so it's not a software issue, i called sony and they had me try some things and finally came to the conclusion to return the dvd drive to them. SO hopefully i will get another drive and not have this problem. I know it couldn't be the media because i was using the same blank media to burn copies, probably a total of 75 discs before it started acting up.
