Your old drive doesn't like this media. try updating the firmware. http://www.firmwarehq.com/NEC/ND-6500A/files.html Try burning at 6x or max (8x). If that fails, get some 8x Taiyo Yuden. If you still have problems, get a new drive for 20 bucks.
Try updating your Nero to version 7.10.1.0 here http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/2893/ just key in your serial number and you'll have the latest version of Nero 7.
