Hi all. I'm a newbie here, but I've been reading as many posts as possible to figure this out before I posted. I'm having "illegal disc errors as well with my dvd burner. I was trying to create a backup of some files onto a DVD-R, but Nero error-ed me out. When I try to burn anything with a DVD-R, it's not taking.

    I have done the following:
Updated my firmware to 1.08 (currently using a NEC nd-2500A burner)
    I've deleted my old Nero6
Cleaned it out with Nero Cleaner as mentioned to other people
Installed Nero 6.6 (ends in 18 i think)
Tried to burn again, but I received errors.
I will be going out to buy a better DVD-r brand tomorrow after work, but I figure I post with my log below, maybe I missed something?

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to AD.

You are using poor quality discs, Daxon, try Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)....apart from that the log looks OK.

i am having the same message, and i've tried everything. can't figure it out. very, very frustrating.

My computer came with SonicDigitalMediaLE. I can burn data DVDs fine with this program, but I don't think I can burn movie DVDs with it. So, I downloaded Nero. When trying to burn a movie onto DVD, I get to the same point on every project and it spits it out at the same exact point each time with the 'illegal disc' message. Now, then. This also happens when I try to burn a data DVD with Nero. But Data DVDs work great on the SonicDigitalMediaLE. This makes me think it could be Nero...(???) I've tried a couple of different versions of Nero, Nero free trials. Nothing works. Spits it out right at the same spot.

If anyone reading has any advice, I'd really, really appreciate it!

    @cptnshinr

You have an incompatibility between your media and the burner's firmware.

Update to version UYS4 from here:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2113

Your discs are so-so when talking about quality. If firmware update for your burner doesn't help, get some Verbatim or Sony discs.

    Cyrpusrom -

Thank you for the suggestions. I updated my firmware and used Verbatim discs. Same error at the same point in the process. I think I am going to backup the files I want to keep and reboot my machine and start over from there. See what happens.

    Thank you for your response.

Hi gwendolin. Thanks for the help. I had an unexpected business trip assigned to me last min and just got back today. I'm going to bestbuy or circuit city in the next couple of days so that I can find a small 5 or 10pk of DVD-R's that you suggested. I don't want to blow my money on 50pk if it doesn't work. I'll post back if it works. Thanks
