I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Nero. I have an Iomega Super DVD external writer connected to a hi speed USB 2 notebook card. I am trying to rip a DVD using nero but after writing the lead in the burn process fails saying either 'illegal disk' or 'reset problem'. I have read a related thread about illegal disk but I don't think the solution is installing the latest firmware as there is nothing wrong with my DVD drive. Could someone please help me this is getting quite annoying. Thanks, JJ here is the log.... @kkpc2191 - virtually nothing wrong there, except firmware.... - not too old, latest is 6.6.0.16. Maybe try using Burning Rom instead of Express. - your firmware is way out of date. Newer versions are here - http://tdb.rpc1.org - N0AD, A101, A102, A104, A110, A111, A112, A115, and A117. So you see, yours is really old.. - for info, for future burns, always free up more memory prior to burning - for info, there are fake Ritek G05 discs out there, not saying you have some, just worth checking... - my money's on the firmware i'm afraid....
Thanks Creaky I shall try updating my firmware this evening and keep you posted. Sorry about cross posting.
Hi Creaky, I updated my firmware as instructed. I experimented with different disks however, with the Ridisk I got another illegal disk error and with the datawrite disk, Nero hung up after writing the lead in. JJ Here is the log again... dunno what's going on here - Book Type request [LG]: DVD-ROM Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type Book Type request [LG]: DVD+R Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type - that disc is a -R so dunno why it's tried twice (incorrectly) to booktype the disc. you can't booktype a -R disc, only +R. My Nero is set to booktype automatically, and it's clever enough to only set it when it detects a +R disc.
