We bought an Ilo DVD05 and returned it for a problem with over heating causing the door to the player to swell shut. It worked when left off for awhile but then goes out of alignment once it heats up. So we picked up an Ilo DVD04 for some of the missing features on the 05, including a fan on the device. I just picked up one of these at Wally world and downloaded and upgraded the firmware with the latest unhacked update. We find we are getting a terrible hum from the cable/tuner and are using AV2 for our sound. We recorded some tests and found that this recorder creates a narrow static looking white band at the top of the screen. On all our recordings. The DVD05 did not do this. What could be the problem? Thanks for any clues.
... Does your machine do this on AV1 also? Is your AV2 input the front rca jacks? I know on some of the the LiteOn units (which is the company that makes the 04), there is a shielding problem with the front jacks. By the way, the 05 (made by Cyberhome) is not considered to be as good a unit as the 04 so you made a good trade ...
No AV2 input is the rear inputs. We haven't used the front jacks which are AV1 as the hum is fairly noticeable.
If we can't figure out what to do to remedy it, it will go back unfortunately. As the band line at the top is not something I am willing to live with.
[redwolf65] You say your using the AV-2 jacks for sound. For Video are you using the AV-2 video jack or the the Rf input jack and than the RF output to the TV or somthing else? I do not know the connection setup you have or require. but this could be a problem.A defective firmware upgrade could be a problem. Make sure that the unit is the cause of any problem I have the ilo RHD04 [no problems]and it's a good unit. There are some savy users that have the 05 [the MU model] [same as the Cyberhome 1600 MH] and think highly of it. Go to www.techolio.com. They also have information on firmware upgrades and hacks. If dubing VHS to DVD and Macrovision is a concern the 04 is best [with hacked firmware,The 05 has none]. ilo is a WalMart brand. The o4 is discontinued. Replacing an 04 with an 04 may not be possible. Have them send it in for repair, tell them that you do not want an 05. If you send it to ilo the freight, one way,is on you
[redwolf65] Are your units pluged in at the same AC outlet. Improper receptacle grounding, or any equipment that does not have the proper orentation of the AC plugs, is not properly grouned. If any units are revirse grounded this could also be a problem.
... ilo and other LiteOn made machines also seem to have problems when placed too near the Tv or other equiptment ... a definite no-no is to have another piece of equiptment on top of the recorder ...
[redwolf] I have an ilo DVDRHD04 There are two pieces of equipment right on top of this unit. A Go video combo VHS/DVD and a Cyberhome DVD. [ilo, Go Video, Cyberhome].All adjacent to an LCD TV. Some 5 friends of mine with ilo units also have equipment right on top of the ilo. None of us has ever had any problems. Any unit has its quirks and that's another issue. In this case there seems to be a definite problem. If it is the unit, and you like and want the ilo, have WalMart fix it if they can't replace it.
It does not create the white line when DV1 is used when transfering VHS to it. But when we record cable tv it does.
[redwolf65] It sounds like a problem in the way the uuit is connected and/or a ground problem. Take a look at my previous posts. Is the 04 connected [JUST] as the 05 was? I would really like to know if you use the video [orange] RCA jack along with the Audio [Red/White Jacks. Are you using the ilo RF jacks? I think you should eliminate any potential problems brfore giving up on the 04. There may be some other issues but this problem with the band at the top needs to be resolved first. There is an issue with the ilo 04 tuner and a hum but you say you are using the cable tuner
