I can hear the dvd recorder to start spinning but then stops, i been looking around in different forums, but i havent found anything to get me out this problem, is there a way to hard boot the whole machine or something??? since i cant now do any update since the dvd recorder dont recognize any cd/dvd?
    Thanks for any help,

yeah, same here. i can remember after i bought the machine, i had to call the company because it wouldn't record. finally they told me to erase the hd. i may try this when i get home tonight. might as well, cant use it the way it is. just have cable shows on it, so not like i'll lose anything valuable.

so erasing or formatting the hard drive has an connection with how the dvd/cd drive records or how to read dvd/cd's?

How old is the unit. It may be that the DVD drive is dirty and needs to be cleaned.
Personally I think the best way is to remove the case top cover and than clean the unit. Remove thse top of the DVD drive and clean the laser and unlt, A SOFT brush with a little eye glass cleaner and canned air works fine
My two RHD04 units have had this treatment and work fine The LiteOn 5045 (Basicly the same) has at present a replacement Drive (A liteon PC 1693s)

    PS
to remove the Top cover of the DVD drive you may have to remove the screws holding th drive anb move the drive back about a quarter inch

Thanks a bunch. I just did what you said, and cleaned the eye. It now works again.

    Yes

Will it read and play a commercial disk
Is the +RW a used disk that will not erase [format] in the unit therefore saying prepare but not
If so the only answer may be using a PC and a proven burner software to erase the disk and return it to a useable state.
I use mainly Verbatim +RW disks [Excellent]and this does not happen often but can with any disk.

I would try the comercial and a new blank +RW disk first

Again, How old and how much use. You may be looking at a DVD drive replacment

I would like too add if you finalized the disk you are problably safe and can watch them on other recorder or players.
