Hello...got an imac OS 8.6. I want to know if it possible to get it to do video editing. Not interested in imovie. This imac had a quicktime movie I'd call it but I deleted it to make more space on the imac. It has no place to put digital camera or go between like canopus or anything though I was able to see the pictures from digital photography camera. I know I could get a better imac..but this just came up unexpected...and theres no plan for getting a new one...so before I give to the local thrift I just wondered IF?

    Cheers

what exactly are you trying to do? video?

i'm guessing that's an imac g3 with the OS at 8.6. those machines only had about 6gb hd.

not very much you can do with that.

Thanks for reply...it is an O.S...sorry didn't think to mention it..but it has 1 mb ..with 32 md built in memory...997 virtual and 900.1 mb us unused. It doesn't say anything about gbytes. This is a project computer for my son. I already shelled to him an imac OSX which came with imovie. Now he keeps talking about something called FCP and some others...but I refuse to mess with the imac he has since its working fine want to keep it that way. This an office computer no one needed anymore..perfect..'cause hes not getting another new one. He feels we can upgrade this 8.6. Is it possible to get video in and out of this thing without a firewire port?...doesn't this need certain cards to show video...maybe it does if it can show quicktime movie? HELP ANY IDEAS!...

FCP is final cut pro. if you didnt know.
imovie wont run on that. in order to even get os x on a machine. you need to have at least OS 9.2.2.
he will not be able to do any video whatsoever. if very much for that matter.
your best bet is to get him a mac mini. its not possible on that machine.

Thanks for reply sincerely!...Well so much for that little dream...next step is just to try and install another video editing program on his present imac OS X if I got that right..its the one with imovie on it...blue computer. I've been scared of doing that for fear that something would go wrong. Thats all I don't need...but may my son and I will take a try at it..eventually. Thanks much...
