On my old computer, I would always use Nero to make disk images on my hard drive.

I now have a new computer with only 1 DVD player and Instead of saying just "image recorder" where it allows me to pick where I want to save it (c: drive) it just says E drive and Image Recorder (DVD) and will no longer allow me to put a disk image on my hard drive.

I can't switch to something like img burn for this reason - Nero always allows me to backup open disks (If I used my DVD recorder to record something and I plan on adding things later, so I have not finalized the disk yet). I don't know of any other program that allows this.

Not sure what is wrong with Nero (or me) on this new install.

    thanks

thanks, but actually, its not. I forgot to mention that I had tried it without success.

On my old computer I would burn images to the hard drive this way but on this computer it looks at the DVD drive (I only have one) as an image recorder (which its not) and tells me the disk I am trying to backup can not be written too. So its reading and trying to write to the DVD drive at the same time.

    What a pain

Always worked for me on my old computer.

Someone mentioned that it might be a conflict with Roxio (which came preinstalled).

    thanks for helping
