Hey all, so I am looking to buy a new laptop. My budget is around $1000 more or less. I am going to use it for mostly general use but I want the option of gaming. I would like to be able to play the latest games smoothly. I have been doing some research lately and I am considering the Asus G51. Is Asus a good quality make?

Please help me decide and/or recommend another good laptop for a similar price or less.

    Thanks in advance.

Mate your best bet is to post some alternatives of lappys and post the specs and price and we can tell you whether its good or not. Also Asus make good enough laptops i have a asus netbook and it does the job i have ubuntu netbook remix on it.

Yea so post specs and prices and we can help you further cause as well as price your location also goes into account country cause we are all over the world. :)

Well first I will post a quote from my post at another forum, it's a series of questions that really go into detail so I think that will help you guys to help me.

That said, I'm looking at the Asus G51 as I've read it's the best gaming laptop for that cost. If I can find one for under $1500, would that be a good buy?

Other than that I don't have many other potential laptops yet as I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to brands especially gaming laptops, which I'm new to.

From what I've read either Asus or MSI are that best gaming laptops for the cost. Alienware is good also, but very overpriced.

Anyway, let my know if that Asus G51 is a good and if not maybe after reading my quoted post some other good models will come to mind.

    Thanks again, I appreciate it!

Asus's build quality is very low IMHO...stationary parts tend to die after 6-12 months...and laptops get more abuse.

HP, Dell/Alienware, and Toshiba all make far more rugged systems. I'm affraid I can't recomend any of them, as no one (including Asus) makes a laptop that costs $1000 or less and will also play the latest games smoothly.
