In Nero 8 the Info Tool 5 hangs up (stops). The Nero techs say it's a Fire Wall situation, but the only FW I have on is Norton/Symantec (not OEM Windows one) and it's set to accept/allow Nero programs. I've carefully followed Roxio's instructions to remove all its programs to avoid conflicts, including downloading and using the MS Windows Installer Clean Up Utility to void Roxio/Sonic programs, as well as going into the Registry to delete any reference to R/S there. It still hangs up on me. Suggestions?

Thanks, but I've done that a number of times using both the Nero 7 and 8 file cleanup utilities, if there's any difference between them. And I've gone into the Registry to delete all references to Ahead as well as Nero, and for Roxio/Sonic. Any possibility there's a conflict with the HP Media Center S/W?

Thanks for responding. As soon as the small loading up window opens, the green progress bar goes a quarter of an inch and then stops. I never get to the Info Tool window. Since the Nero techs say it has to be a firewall problem, I went into its (Norton) settings and made sure that Nero Smart Start was allowed and then added the InfoTool.exe for safe measure. Keep those suggestions coming. Apart from Vision, the rest of the software seems to be working fine. Vision won't copy to a DVD a DVR-MS (Windows) video I computer-recorded from KCET and then edited. The funny thing is that I HAVE done this, as well as gotten the Info Tool to work a couple of times--not since I added the Nero 8 and 8.3.2.1, though.

i dont think v8.3.2.1 is the stablist cookie in th jar...

ok if they say its firewall on norton try this... right click on norton system tray icon (by pc clock) disable for couple mins, then try imfo tool.

god knows why nero needs to phone out or your pc to use the info tool

what happens if your offline cant you use it? crazy... i think not.

    too me nero is bugged.

I tried all kinds of approaches to the f/w problem. I turned off everything for an hour on Norton and even went into the MSCONFIG to turn it off upon a new restart. Zippo, nada, no difference. One Fry's Electronics tech suggested I even delete it and then do a new install, but that seemed like overkill. He also suggested I turn off the T-Timer option on Spybot, so I just deleted Spybot; but that was more to do with the 8.3.2.1 not copying eduted DVR-MS (Windows Media Center) files to a DVD. Anyway, I deleted the 8.3.2.1 and installed the 7.11, and voila, the problem disappears! The Info Tool tells me all about my optical drives and the disks in them. So, unless I can get a better explanation of "how come?" I'm just going to use the 7.11. If you can think of anything else, give me a holler at gdusek@juno.com. Thanks.

Nero tech suggests I try Nero 8.2.8.0 instead of 8.3.2.1, but I finally have Nero working, albeit Nero 7! So, I'm going to wait on this before going through all the rigamarole that's involved in deletions and reinstalls.

That makes sense. I've stayed with Nero 7.x.x.x (later than store version) and everything works fine. The Nero LA tech even sent me a DVD copy of the 8.3.2.1, but I've gone that route with the download and I don't feel like investing a few more days in confirming their bugginess! What's curious to me is that bloggers will often say how well N8 works with their Vista--mystery to me!
