installing dvd burner

    for starters i am a newb and i dont know anything about computers. I have a dvd rom and a cd burner in my pc right now. ive ordered a dvd dual layer burner. When i get it im going to have to uninstall one of my other drives and install my dvd burner. which should i uninstall? and how do i install the dvd burner?? do i just stick it in the old spot?


    i am a dumass or at least spoken to like one...

    Hi,

    I'd advise replacing the CD burner with the DVD burner. The DVD burner will burn CDs as well so it makes the CD burner a bit redundant. Plus if you leave the DVD ROM you can use that to rip DVDs faster than the burner can and save wear and tear on the burner.

    It should be a matter of simply disconnecting the data and power cables from your existing burner and then reconnecting them to the new one once its installed.

    Be sure to set the DVD burner as Master (jumpers too) and set the ROM to Slave for best performance.

    how do u set all that stuff .....? ....the slave and stuff.

    just so you know i have a sony DW-D18A with supposively nero V 6. If that helps any...
