I have an older version of xp installed in my system. When I get the update to install Service Pack 2 and I try and install it my computer freezes up and I have had to reinstall windows 3 times trying to install service pack 2 from the windows websight. I purchased a newer verson of windows xp and it has service pack 2 already on the disk with the xp. If I install the new windows disk will it just install over my old version without me loosing anything on my harddrive?

    Thank you

It should do if u do a repair install that only effects the Windows directory.

backup all the files you want onto a Data CD or DVD. Then format your hard disc and do a clean install.
