Hey! I am currently trying to install SuSE Linux on a iMac G3 PPC but when i put the first disk in the drive and type "install" it does a bunch of checking from what i can tell then it gives me a line saying "Please supply a config file". After that message a black screen comes up with a "_" on it. Thats about as far as i get becouse when i try to get the PPC to eject the disk it wont! I hope somone can help me becouse the computer will be useless to me unless i can put Linux on it.
There was only SuSE for Windows and a bunch of differnt makes for that one, And SuSE for OSS and the makes for that where: x86, x86-64, PPC. I choose the PPC becouse i am trying to run it on the old iMac G3 Power PC (Lime). So as far as downloading the right format im almost positive on it!
I'm not sure on SUSEs PPC support as I hava always used x86 but does it support G3? I know Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/) does have a PPC version and they say theirs does. Are you trying to install SUSE Linux 10.0 for PPC (aka openSUSE). I'd check into G3 support.
look there is way but only SUSE 10 but you have to go http://en.opensuse.org/PPC_Installation_Issues and read the prossidure, but there other issues too here just one pease of it this copy of the page, Booting of the Installation CD/DVD CD1 is bootable on all NewWorld G3/G4/G5 Macs, IBM RS/6000 and pSeries, and also on PReP systems. To install on an OldWorld Mac, use BootX (from http://penguinppc.org/~benh/ ). To install on a legacy IBM iSeries systems, boot the CD1/ISERIES64 file as *STMF. yaboot will automatically pick the correct kernel for your machine. and this is page http://en.opensuse.org/PPC_Installation_Issues hope this help's enjoy.
well you can always go for YELLOW DOG LINUX but you gotta pay for it but it sounds good. http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/
