Do I need to download a codec or some other drivers?
You shouldn't have serious issues with such hardware if not using an external display. Not crystal clear? Is there any lag? Are you running a file or a dvd? Have you installed any display drivers yet? Any codecs?
Even blurays are not crystal clear...DVDs are nowhere close. I am guessing that this is just the first time you watched a DVD on a high-res screen, and without upscaling or blending. As for the codec, if it plays, then you have the codecs needed. You can try downloading VLC...it works without codecs, but it probably won't help much, as the video chip in your laptop won't let VLC do all those fancy new HD video tricks.
All my movies are downloaded from torrents and on my desktop PC,which I built, has better resolution. Even my AVI and WMV videos that I compressed using VirtualDub look better on my desktop then on this new laptop. But I was doing some research and I suppose that video cards that share off the RAM is not that great even for regular video playback. I will be doing some video editing and rendering using Sony Vegas and Adobe Video Effects. So I guess this Intel GMA HD Card will not help. I have used VLC and VLC could not pick up the goodness quality on my laptop like my desktop already does. I guess I will have to get a laptop that has a Graphics card that won't feed off the actual RAM the lappy already has. What you guys think?

Thanks, I ended up returning the laptop as the Graphics card shared off the RAM and well, I was gonna do some multi tasking with Sony Vegas. So now I'm fishing for a better lappy.
I just went to Frys and a lot of lappies are coming out now with Intel GMA HD card. But it keeps sharing and most of the RAM is 3 or 4. Not enough to run both graphics and CPU.
ram can be added to system beyond 4 gig as long as using 64bit os. unless have dedicated videocard you'll always have memory sharing as even desktops have that issue.
I don't want to pay more to get more RAM when the laptop's price is unreasonable. But I just wasn't that high on the Intel card also.
Here is a simple rule for you...if it has intel video (any form of intel video), then it is junk for your needs. Every manufacturer makes cheap chips that steal system memory (btw...the lost memory is the least of their problems)...but Intel is the only company that does not offer any dedicated chips. BTW...that "Intel HD video" is going to be very common on i3 laptops, as that video chip is built right into the CPU, and they tend to cut every corner they can on i3 laptops in order to keep the prices low. Even if they wanted to make a laptop with a nice video chip, they would still have to pay for the intel video chip as part of the i3 CPU purchase. Thus, I have yet to see an i3 laptop with an ATI or nVidia video chip...not even the cheap ones that share memory.
The customizable laptops give you the options to add a 512 or 1Gb ATI HD card with i3 or i5. Almost $200 more then what I purchased.And I know I'm buying the ATI card as extra, which I don't mind.
