hi there, i really hope you guys can help cause i think i have pulled out every last bit of hair in my head, i bought a new mobo cpu combo and right from the start that was a problem, everything posted first time, no problems but i tried installing windows it would always error when copying needed system files before the actual install starts. my first problem was an ecs mobo so i replaced with "asus p5gc-mx", got windows to finally start installing, got past the point where it used to fail and and then started to install but when it was installing devices i got the blue screen, it said something about the hdd but i know it is not the hdd, brand new western digital. now when i try running the windows disc(xp or vista) they both hang when trying to start beginning of install. i was thinking maybe a bad cpu(intel pentium d 2.66ghz), because i have replaced everything else from ram to video cards, to hdds and even power supply, if someone can help see the light i will be greatful, thanks alot.

Have you checked the windows CD itself, or the hard disk?

there's certainly a problem somewhere - are you using the same S-ATA cable? What USB peripherals have you connected?

sammorris what do you mean the same sata cable? for both hdds, yes i have been using the same cable. i do have the usb headers for the case plugged in and also i have a 7 in 1 mem card in place of the floppy but that also uses the usb header on the motherboard, and yes both my hdds are SATA.

try a different sata cable. also might need to load sata controller software when windows says "press f6 for third party software".

ok, i will try that, do you think it has anything to do with the usb headers or anything?

don't think it is usb headers as you still have same problem with different board. your printer is not hooked up is it?

k tried swapping sata, does not work, same thing, i have no printers hooked up, only things hooked up are, the hdd, dvd drive, i just wish i could get the install to start, wont even do that, maybe memory failure, i just tried installing vista and i get the blue screen which says uncorrectable hardware error, and then xp just wont even start, gets to the screen where at the bottom says coping windows executive files and then it freezes there, i am so stumped right now, i have no idea what else to try. maybe power supply? i have no clue.

Seems like you havent tried a different DVD drive. The CPU should not be causing these problems.
