Hey, Im having trounle connecting to the internet on one of my computers, im using a D-link Dsl-302G with a WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router Ver.2. I can connect to the internet onto one of my computers, but not on the other i get the error message on the one that cant connect "Limited or no connectivity" this is what it looks like Can anyone help ???
is that computer wired or wireless?? if both wireless & both using same card than compare the settings & even switch cards to see if problem stays or not.
They are both connected to the router by the cables, the two computers are next to each other. I dont know why its doing this its been working for i dont how long, it would be a fair while.
check in device manager to see if card is there & working properly. switch network cables.check in network connections properties that every thing is there for the card. check to see if the ip address is correct in either dynamic or static.
Ok do i check the network adapter?? If so both are working, also should i see a section on device manager, that says Modem??? because if im supposed to its not there. Ok i think everything for the card is there. Ok i switched the cables over and still no success ok how do i check the ip address in static/dynamic???
won't see modem unless you have a dialup modem. check network connections(?) properties\tcp/ip properties to see if dynamic or static ip address.
yes but is it the same as the good computer?? uninstall the card in device manager & restart windows so can load driver. are the netcards built in or pci cards? if pci cards & both the same or not, try switching them into opposite computer to see if problem follows or not.
Well im not sure but the old one, didnt have a card so we had to buy one its a netgear one. the newer comp (the one with the problem) had one already with it so im not sure what one it is, but i do know its not a PCI one. So i uninstall the driver off the new one then restart then install again?? [edit] In control panel, there is Intel PROSet when i double click on it i get the message "Fail to load one of the network component." does that have anything to do with it?? [edit2] Ok it wont let me uninstall the driver as it says, its used to boot the computer???
Well for some weird reason it has decided it would connect now the IP address has changed??? to a 169.254.132.xx ???
Did you check to see if they have conflicting IP ranges? You need to check if they have the same one, because if they do, then it won't work. You have to change the last 2 digits of the IP address for each so it is different. If the one that works is .01, or whatever, you need to make sure that the other connection is not the same, so you should make it something like .50, that way, you can make sure that you don't have a conflict.
Nah, they're not conflicting as the one that isnt working is 169.xxx.xxx.xx the one that is working is 192.168.x.xxx. also it has gone back to the same message limited or no connectivity.
Ok, well optus didnt help, they said to get some one that knows about computers to have a look. This is really annoying
in device manager under network adapters, what is the card there & do you have updated drivers for it?
It is Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection card and im not sure if its updated, it says it is when i connect to the microsoft site??
check this link for possible update on driver. http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!
Ok new problem, we uninstalled SP2, then we tried to re-install Xp home edition and after it finished, it restarted and asked what we wanted to start it in, (safe mode, Normal, etc) but as soon as we select one, the computer restarts it keeps doing this. we want to do a fresh install but it says that we are going to install multiple operating systems on a single partition. we can 1. continue setup using this partition 2. select a diff partition. We dont want to re-format it as it has all our stuff on it, is there a way to get it to work without re-formatting it???
