Hi all, I had cable broadband internet through Optus and my modem was connected to a wireless router which was then connected to my desktop. Whenever I turned on my desktop I was connected. My daughter has laptop which has a receiver and she could get on to the net without turning on my desktop and everything was working ok until we switched over to Telstra. I now have to turn on my desktop, double click on the Bigpond icon to connect, before she can connect. Has anyone had this problem and was able to fix it? I rang up tech help at Bigpond but they had no solution. Please help. Thank you in advance. nextvkin
This is just a guess but it sounds like they got the cable modem and router wires maybe backwards. The Cable modem output should go first to the router input. Then connect the desktop to any of the other ethernet ports on the router if you are using wired connections for the desktop. The other laptop connects through the wireless connection. Just make sure the modem and router are always on even if the desktop is off. There is usually a reset button on most routers on the back that you can try also. Some take a paperclip in a small hole to reset. That may help also. Jerry
