internet explorer keeps opening up

    ie keeps opening up on my computer but its only on my wife's name under my name it doesnt pop up ive ran virus scanners at it and it comes up with nothing is there a way to turn off ie cause i run firefox as my main source of gettimg on the internet

    Sounds like she has some adware on her login. You can try running ad-aware (link here) or spybot (link here) search and destroy to clean it up. Also make sure that she doesn't have anything in her startup folder that causing IE to open. Finally, after you've cleaned all of the adware, try running hijackthis (link here)to clean up anything that runs in the background. You can run msconfig, but hijackthis is more powerful and will show you more information.

    IE is intergrated into windows so turning off is'nt really an option,the closest you can get to that is make ff the default browser,however you still have an issue which needs to be sorted,don't forget you can't update the OS without IE,when was the last time you did update windows,use the windows update button instead of autoupdate then hit the custom button,you'll find extra stuff for the OS

    when you say startup folder what are you talking about

    Click on the Windows Start button, and then select Programs, and then select Startup. Anything that is in this folder will automatically startup when the user logs in.
