I am not too crazy about DVD copy 2 but I like the fact that it can burn directly from the source to the burner. The problem is that this programm does not recognize the external USB 2 burner. But it does see the two internal ones. Was wondering if there are steps I could take to correct this.
BTW--All other softwares do see the external burner
    Thanks in advance

have you gotten any programs to successfully burn a DVD9 (dual layer) to DVD5 (single layer) on the fly (without going to hard drive first)? If so, I'd like to know which program(s) and which movies you did this with.

    @e065688,

The only possibility I could think of is to "uninstall" everything and "reinstall" it again, then "restart" your computer after you've completed the installation process. Other than that, I'm not too sure what to tell you because I don't have that much of burners hooked to the computer like you did. My InterVideo DVD Copy 3 can only recognize 3 drives so far; 1) my SONY DRU 710 cd/dvd dual layer burner, 2) my Toshiba cd/dvd-rom drive, and 3) my c: drive [hard drive].

    Best of lucks to you.

I own DvD Copy 3 Platinum, but I don't have a dvd burner yet. I was wondering what kind of EXTERNAL dvd burner would be the best, and of course one that is compatible with DVD Copy 3. I think DVD+R/RW is the best kind?

    thanks.

    squizzle,

DVDCopy3, although it also sends the files to a temp folder while encoding, also burns as it encodes. Kinda like on the fly. I never burn straight to dvd with this proggy as you can't control burn speed that way. I always send the encoded files to a folder and then burn them with nero afterwards so I CAN control the burn speed.

    e065688,

I remember seing a similiar problem one other time with DVDCopy3 not recognizing the external drive. I think the only way he got it to work with his external drive was to set up a folder and select it as the target then when DVDCopy3 was done burned the folder with nero or other burning app which is better anyway IMO since you can control burn speed this way.

DVD Copy 3 burns on the fly while encoding? Wouldn't you get all kinds of buffer underrun errors? Unless you're using 1x media that is?

You know now that I think about it, it only does that when the dvd, folder, or files being backed up are under 4.38 gb so I will stand and apologize for my error. It will however burn on the fly if you are backing up a dvd9 to two dvd5's or like I said movie only when the movie is less than 4.38 gb. Darn, only mistake I made all day (ya right) :)

I use Intervideo Copy 3 Platinum as much as CloneDvd 2 for most back-up jobs unless the compression drops to 3 on Copy 3 or 65% on Clone Dvd 2, then I use RebuilderPro/CCE then burn with Nero. Copy 3 does burn on the fly as long as the movie is less than 4.7 GB. otherwise it produces a temp folder then it writes the info. to the recordable DVD. I have an internal DL NEC burner and an external Sony DRU 800xl (attached through firewire). Both work flawlessly. I had previously encountered a problem with a couple Warner Bros. movies not recording the 5.1 DD audio stream, but beyond that it has been great, even burning movie only, or customize...no problems. I still believe Intervideo needs to address the concern of many that when you reauthor, there is inconsistencies with the program. I would recommend the Sony Dru 800xl external DL Burner. I had is hooked up with usb 2.0 then hooked it up with firewire. Both have been flawless and work very well with Intercopy. Based on my experience. I would suggest using the trial version and get use to it to see how it interacts with your system and programs. I always burn with 4x speed (Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 4x supermediastore.com) I also use Verbatims, Sonys and Maxwell.
    Good luck!

hey it's ok Mort, even the best of us make mistakes. I love anydvd though, I can burn a DVD5 on the fly with Nero. I do it all the time, it's great stuff.

Being a newbie, yet learning rapidly I stand corrected on the Dvd size. 4.39 gb and the ON-THE-FLY works. Sorry! I have made a few coasters at the beginning but learning how not to...the biggest lesson is learning to always burn at 4x or less. I know others burn faster, yet I have seen my back-ups at guicker speeds at the quality is horrible.
I learn a lot from you guys and gals!
    Thanks
