I have a PCI tuner card and I use Intervideo WinDVR to view cable channels. I want to record tv shows onto my hard drive to view later because of work/school. Everytime I try to record a program my computer restarts. Does anyone know whats goin on here or how I can fix it?
Does your PC Instantly restart or does it capture for a while and then your PC Restarts after a while of Captureing??? If your PC captures for a Little while and then it restarts then it could be that your CPU is Overheating which is causeing it to restart.... Captureing with WinDVR is a Very CPU Intensive Process because it has to compress the Video and Audio to Mpeg-2 format in Real time which uses up Most of your PC"s resources and also Increases the Temperature of your CPU and if you Don"t have adequate Ventiliation and Coolong or haven"t Cleaned out your Case in the Last 6 months then it can cause the CPU to get to Hot which will cause your PC to Restart..... Maybe Try Takeing the Side off of your PC"s Case and Get a Vacume cleaner turned on Reverse and Blow all of the Dust out of your PC and then Start your PC while Keeping the Side off of the Case and Start Captureing and see if you can capture Longer without restarting and if You can then you will know what the problem is.... Good luck
Try this...Go into the WinDVR Settings and turn off the "Overlay" feature in the "Display" tab and see if that helps...
If this worked (which i am glad it did) it is Because there is some sort of problem with the Overlay Feature on your PC"s Video card or maybe it is a Compatibility problem between the overlay on your Video card and the way WinDvr implements the Overlay or maybe even your Capture card can have something to do with it.... If this ever happens again in other capture software then Look for an overlay setting in the Software and and disable it.... With overlay Disabled you probably will not be able to resize the preview screen while Captureing or you might not even have Preview while Captureing so in the Future if you keep haveing Issues related to the Overlay then it would be a Good Idea to get the problem looked at and Fixed.... Cheers
