IP ADDRESS

    i am trying to port forward my router, but every tutorial i go to tells me to type my default gateway in my address bar and gives me a usual default gateway, o i try mine and it takes me to msn search, i try theirs and it takes me to msn search, how do i fix this problem??

    it is a d-link dss-5+ router and when i type my ip address in my address bar i get msn search, whats wrong

    Your IP address that you connect to the internet is not the IP address used to login to the router. Check the manual..usually it's something like 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.2.1.

    isnt it the deafult gateway?

    Yes. If you manually enter you own IP into the TCP/IP properties, the Default Gateway is the same IP address that will log you into the router.
    If you haven't been into your router as of yet, again check the manual for the username and password.

    For example: [Linksys router]

    IP Address - 192.168.1.50
    Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1

    i have tried typing in my ip address default gateway subnet mask, everything i could think of in Internet Explorer and in Firefox and in IE i got msn search and Firefox i got a connection timeout or something stupid like that... wtf is wrong here?

    What IP address does the manual say to use? I'd suggest calling up their tech support, they'll be able to get you going.
