Recently my IPOD hasn't been working right. The other day I was listening to it when it froze, so i reset it. When it came back up, it didnt have any songs on it. So I restarted it again and got a folder with an exclamation point. I tried restoring it but still no luck. Now it seems when i plug in my IPOD, ITunes and even the Ipod updater freezes up before it recognizes the Ipod. Any idea of what i can do to fix this?
The folder icon usually means a problem with the hardrive. Have you dropped it recently, and how old is it? If you can manage to get the iPod to mount to your PC you can try using this tool to reformat it to FAT 32, which should allow you to restore your iPod with the iPod Updater, but if your hardrive is broken this won't work. http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/serveroptions/us/download/23839.html To get your iPod to mount to your computer you should force it into disk mode by resetting it [hold menu and select] and then hold down menu and play when the Apple logo appears until the screen appears saying it is in disk mode. If this fails after a few attempts your hardrive is probably broken and needs to be replaced.
my ipod is about 2 years old, i finally got it to restore but the same problems occur. How much does a new hard drive run?
The cost can vary, with the new iPod's release I would expect the price to go down marginally, just give it a search in google.
