I have a 60 GB ipod 5th gen and. I have tried charging overnight with both an AC wall adapter and the computer via USB and they both say the ipod is charging but when i take it off charge after well over 12 hours it only plays one song and the battery goes dead. Why won’t my ipod charge?

    Thanks

There really isn't anything that can be done software wise to fix this. I'd suggest bringing it to Apple, and they should replace it without any trouble.

You could also just try doing a soft reset, by holding Menu and Center for about six seconds, but I don't think that will fix it.

Does it work whilst it's charging ? I had a similar problem with my 4th gen. I used to leave it for long periods of time between charges. I charged it probably less than ten times before it died. It went back to Apple who replaced it. Now I leave it connected to the computer all the time and I get much better results. Hell, I've had this one for nearly a year!

When you first get your iPod [or anything with a rechargable battery for that matter] you're supposed to drain the battery as completely as possible, and then charge for maximum life. After that you can pretty much charge as you please.
