   my dad has a tv thats as old as the hills with no scart im wondering does he need to upgrade because i want to get him the rte channels with the new boxes

   old tv should be fine. However the tuner in these old tv's are not good enough to deliver digital services. So you will need to buy digital receiver to deliver the new channels to such a tv.
