Hi all. I recently partitioned my hard drive and used Ghost 2003 to back up/clone my 'C' partition to 'E' partition in error. I actually intended to make a 'Ghost image' of C to E. Given the situation I have 2 questions: 1: If in the event the C partition which is the one that boots into windows gets corrupt and I restore the C partition from E partition, will the C partition that has now been restored from E be bootable? 2: Is there a simple way of formatting or deleting the contents of partition E without using 'Gdisk'?
yes on both accounts. on #1 just have to make certain c: partition is active, on #2 go to my computer right click e:drive & click format
I will have to wait till next week to try it out as my laptop battery has been sent away for replacement. I did not try the right click and 'Delete' trick, but I tried selecting the contents of the whole partition and hitting the delete key. That did not work. Can not remember what message I got, but ghost had protected it from being deleted. Will get back next week and let you know how it went. Cheers.
Hi ddp. Tried clicking and selecting format. But that does not do it. You get a message saying that it can not be formatted. One can not even delete the contents. Ghost seems to put some protection on it.
Usually you cant just right click on a Hard Drive and click Format, mainly if you have Windows XP... Try: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administative Tools -> Computer Management Now click on Disk Management, it should show both hard drives on the right hand side. Click on the Hard Drive you want down the bottom, it should having something like Disc1 |xxxxxxxxxxxx Basic |xxxxxxxxxx xxxGB |xxxxxxxx Online |xxxxxx Right click where the X's are then select Format, follow the prompts. To answer ddp's question. OS is Win XP Pro with NTFS file system. Thanks CJC, tried what you said and it worked. Thanks to all of you who replied, your help is very much appreciated.
