    hi:

I just put my entire mp3 collection (539 files) onto a dvd+r disc. It will not play in my new Sony DVP-NC665P cd/dvd player. The player responds with "no Disc" when I insert the disc. This same disc plays every song on my computer using windows media player.

The Sony plays my video dvd's in dts, neo 6, dolby digital etc and plays store bgt and cdr mp3's with no problems. I have check the settings for the Sony and there is a section on MP3's. The instruction book only mentions cdr's and cdrw's.

Is it possible that this player and all dvd players are not capable of playing mp3 files. Or is there something I have failed to do. Regards...

I have a Sony 700 series DVD player and it gives the same message. I reently bought a LG DVD/VCR combo and it works like a dream. I have a collectors item that comprises of 2100 songs on 2 DVDs and a CD - overs six hours on one DVD. Forget CD shuttles for your HI-FI, this is the way to party!

You will find most brand name players will not play mp3 files on dvd-r. Reason is they first do medium detection, when it detects the disc is a dvd, it goes through all the formats supported for dvd and can't find mp3, since that is put only under cd.

El cheapo players, however, are just dvd-rom drives with a coupld of PCBs and it will work just like your computer. Get an el cheapo player for that purpose. It will save tear and wear on your Sony too.

I had the same disappointment in that loads of mp3s on a dvr that wouldnt play in a stand alone.I have been told that this is cos the mp3s are read as data(hence why the pc can read/play).Apparantly, music on dvd is a seperate entity called (amazingly) DVD-Audio.I stand to be corrected though!!

err, DVD-Audio is a very different beast than mp3. It's high resolution audio, for the people who are really serious about their music. Translation, not the crowd that plays with mp3 :)
There are many dvd-video discs with music and these are either PCM or DD (some DTS) but they are not high resolution.
