I'm still new at this and it takes really long to encode my avi movie. It was only a one hour episode and 700mb.

Also, how many mb can you fit on a dvd. I know they increase in size after the encode.

For example can 2 700mb episodes fit on a dvd? Can 3 or 4?

Well it depends on the software and your hardware that you are using to make then encode.Since I have a fast computer it doesn't take that long for me.If you are using an app like TMPEGnc then yes it will take a long time to encode. On my old system it took 10+hours to encode a 700mb avi movie to MPEG2.But I found that CCE SP is alot faster and gives better visual quality. There are some tricks that you can try like leaving open GOP's using ac3 audio instead of wav.You can maybe fit 3 1hour eps and still look good. But you can allso try 4 but make sure you use ac3 audio to increase video quality.

Oh okay, thanks! Hmmm... I haven't been using TMpegEnc. I've been using AVI2DVD. Is that one slow also?
I will check the program you use and test it out!

You can Fit up to and Over 6 Hours of Video on a DVD if you Use the Other Valid DVD standards....

The "Full D1"(720x480) standard will generally only allow you to get 2 to 2.5 hours of Video on a DVD at good Quality.....

The "Half D1"(352x480) Standard will allow you 4 or 5 hours of Good Quality Video (Better than SVCD Quality) on a Single DVD....

The "SIF/CIF" (352x240) Standard will allow you to Fit over 6 hours of Acceptable Quality Video (Better than VCD Quality) on a Single DVD....

    Cheers
