DMA needs to be on, follow the link below:

    http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm

Go out and buy some Verbatim discs or Sony, and then you will probably be okay. It might work with those discs after you turn DMA on, but you are using low(junk) quality media.

the burners already set at ultraDMA66 and 33 I don't know why Nero reported they weren't ?? Should I change the DMA value?
Thanks for the reply, I will buy some Verbatim dvd to give it a try.

Hmm...I don't know why that's happening. I would still uninstall the drives and reboot the computer and let Windows pick them up and reinstall them.
You are also running an old version of Nero, update to the lates Nero 7.

Do you have Intel Accelerator installed? If not the nvidia drivers might be the problem with the DMA.

also get rid of this driver, it confilcts with nero and drivers for rom drives

    Existing drivers:
    File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=8.0.0.212 , size=9464 bytes, created 04/12/2007 1:38:10 PM

can be roxio / nero incd / and a couple of others,

then after uninstalling use roxio ZAP tool to shred the registry...

if the above doesnt work we look into what cyp says on nforce verses intel accelrators

i have the same drivers! i set/TICK the auto for "Let bios select transfer mode" on bootup! not manually set

I have seen many people that have that driver "File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=8.0.0.212 , size= in their log. They say they never had a Roxio product installed on their computer. I wonder if that is the IMAPI driver. It is the Windows rudimentary CD writing software, made by ADAPTEC.

    No dice Guys ,
    I have tried these steps
    - restore back to dec-07
    - reinstall Nero, the cd came bundle with the drive and Ahead won't let me upgrade to Nero8 unless I paid :)
-delete the files CDRALW2K.SYS and also PXHELP20.SYS. run Roxio zap, I think the Pioneer might be shot, weird noise when spinning? however I did have 1 success burn with the Benq at 4X speed with IMGburn, this made me think that the problem might be with Nero so I hook an USB Benq buner and do a nero burn to see if the same problem occur but it was a success copy.
these processes were such a time consumming task so at this time I will use the internal Benq as reader and the other Benq as burner until I can check the 2 faulty one with another machines.
    Thanks for all yours helps.

    Langong,

    Try this:

    Go to Add/Remove programs.

    Go to Nvidia Drivers.

Only uninstall the Nvidia IDE drivers.

Power off he system then restart and let Windows install the Microsoft drivers. Now your DMA should be okay.
Then try your burn. Is the firmware up to date an all your drives? Are you still using the same low quality discs?

Ignore it, Nero doesn't read the Nvidia chipset properly. It also shows DMA off on your HD's. If that was the case your system would be crawling.

You can easily check your HD's DMA status (and speed) with this app.

    http://www.hdtune.com/

Also EFD Inspector should tell you the status of your opticals (it does for me).

Nero does indeed falsely reports the DMA off, that's why I think you should install the Microsoft drivers if you want to use Nero for burning.

Nope that doesn't seem right. Unless the OP just installed the Nvidia drivers 2 days ago.

I totally understand your point...if it worked before, why it doesn't work now...
However, a little look around will show that NVIDIA drivers don't have a great atapi compliance. "Some fixed the burning problem by rolling back their drivers on the primary and secondary IDE controllers to windows default, other reinstalled, others get by with updating theirs to the newest".
It makes Nero think the DMA is Off and it will not burn;why not change it, if it is known to cause problems?

the bios also needs to be configured to auto detect on drives, and tick auto in device manager (but bios on auto will set device manger - it did mine for me!) i have the same drivers loaded (i also have latest chipset drivers form asus)

as not in dma could mean in pio which means its dropping lower in pio all the time so 2 days ago it was ok, and due to errors for other reasons like media used its just bombed out, but i could also be talking rubbish as im guessing.

but deffo set bios to auto find/load/locate drives, a pc crash can currupt the bios (been there)
