Hi. Got a sanyo VPC-G250E camera. First thoughts of it were pretty good but now I'm not sure. Even at highest reso If say for instance i take a pic of 1 of the kids. The face looks good but the background doesnt look as clear. Is this normal?

If you're using portrait mode, then the background is going to be blurry and subject is sharp. If you're using flash at close range with fast shutter, the background is really dark, almost black. Try taking photos outside without flash and without portrait mode (if you're even using it). Inside you can take pictures without flash using higher iso speeds, let's say with 400 for example. This causes lots of noise, but it can be handled with software.

Thats the cool thing about my Digital Rebel Xt... The subject is focused and the background blury in a close up.. I love that!!!

and you can also take it with the background clear as well...

A narrow depth of field. It is normal.
If you are using portrait mode, that will account for it. If you don't like it, switch to another mode.
If you have manual mode, dial in f8 in daylight and see if you like that better.

In taking portraits, I prefer a shallow depth of field. To me, it's more appealing.
