hello all, could you confirm weather or not my HD is faulty? recently i thought i had a cooling problem, but now i'm thinking its my HD, sometimes when the computer starts up at the bios screen it fails to recognize the HD, but sometime it works. When it does work and loads into windows, it freezes, and sometimes the blue screen comes up saying it shut it self down to prevent damage..... is this a problem with my HD or something else? i have only recently re-formatted my computer so i know there's no virus or anything.
If the hard disk disappears on occasions, it's definitely a hard disk problem. Whether it'e the actual drive, cable, or its connection on the motherboard though it isn't immediately obvious. If you have another cable you can test, and can test another port on the motherboard, do so. If it resolves the problem, then you know what was at fault, if it doesn't, backup and replace the HDD ASAP.
I would test the drive on another computer, install it on an external usb enclosure and run a scandisk on it from another computer. I would blame a motherboard input/output problem. Hard drives either work or don't work. If you have IDE's make sure you don't 2 ide devices connected as master or slave at the same time on the same cable.
