Hey all, need some help here. I bought a 30gig video ipod last week. I spent 5 days burning all my cd's on to it, and 15 movies, now im at sea (im in the navy) and its not working. I left it charging from my laptop overnight, and today i went to use it and i get nothing. It wont turn on, it wont reset by holding the menu and select buttons, and when i try to connect it to my laptop now, XP tells me that the USB device ive connected has malfunctioned and wont recognize it. I opened Itunes and it doesnt see an ipod connected either. Can someone help pleeeeease LOL, im at sea for another month or so and its going to suck staring at a blank ipod screen for it.
I personaly will be glad to try and helpl you. Especially since you are navy =D. First off, does the ipod show anything on the screen when you are trying to turn it on? And does itunes reconize that your ipod is there? Also, have you tryed to restore it? (restoring it might not be in your best intrests i think you lose all of your songs/music.) I will not be hear to monitor this thread. (i will be back monday) But still answer these questions because these are common questions which i can use when i get back, also the more questions you answer the more we know about your situation =D. And one more thing, ist there have to be some crazy smart computer guy on board with you who can help you out alittle? If you are out there for a month you must be able to get him or her to help you. Good luck at sea!
seph, he cannot get it to mount on his iTunes or his PC scott908 - The fact that your Windows recognizes something suggests that you may be able to sort the problem. slip it into disk mode (reset it, and then when the Apple logo shows, press & hold the middle & play/pause buttons). This will force your iPod to mount on your PC. You will have to restore it with the updater or format it in 'My Computer'. You will lose all your music though.
Well in answer to the super smart computer guy onboard, lol, thats me. My trade is communications and we are the IT guys as well. I asked a couple guys that are really close-up on computers (aka, tech nerds) and they were stumped too. I have it working again though now, i feel a bit stupid, but i think the battery just went completely dead. I read on the apple site that the battery can actually drain enough that the computer wont recognize it when you plug it in. i did the reset steps, then plugged it in, and got the un-animated charging icon, indicating that the battery was really dead. It charged for a while and works fine now. I guess it wasnt charging when i thought it was, or maybe it was left on and drained again when i disconnected it or somethin. Anyhow, thanks for the response and i hope this thread can help someone else who might run in to the same problem.
Glad to see you have it sorted. Serpiroth - look forward to having you back posting. It is nice to have someone else of [bold]real[/bold] knowledge in these forums besides myself, and a few others.
Lol, i am back now and will start to post again today. (i am just checking up on my old forums now, but later i will find new ones to try and help out with!)
Well you should try to format it using the ipod updater software it should have came in the ipod setup cd or you can download it in apple.com
