I have a compac that came with a
Pioneer A04 burner and 3 fire wire ports. My DVD's come out like crap though even at the best quality. Is it because I have just a firewire port and not a capture card or are they the same thing. Im completely new so any help would be apreciated . I also have a HDTV if that makes a difference.

    Thanks

Yes, there is a difference. Firewire is often used for tranferring video because it is quite fast, much faster than USB. A capture card will catch video from another source, camcorder, vcr, or TV, for instance. ATI makes a great card, you may want to look into the All-in-Wonder series. I'm able to capture, 720x480,DVD high-quality video and audio, eats up a lot of disk space for an hour of video, about 2.5 GB's, but it's picture perfect!
