Is this a help forum or a chat room? Frankly I'm confused. I cae here for help and even tried to offer some advice of my own here and there but noone's bothered to try help me out. When I look at the board it seems that theres a few regulars here 'chatting' about DVD and movie related problems. Correct me if I'm mistaken but I remember reading somewhere that DVD / Movie related material was not welcome on this particular site - if it is would it not be better to have a forum specifically for movie related stuff and another for music and data? Maybe that way people might have a better chance of getting a reply - apologies if I sound a little over-agitated but this is frustrating when you give and get nothing back in return and I am merely reflecting my own observations - surely someone has experienced the same problems I currently have and can help, so please do so!
hi, there are indeed many dvd related forums here. i for have subscribed to one or all of your posts but haven't yet replied as am still catching up with my usual flood of threads and also haven't quite got any relevant answers for you myself. ps if ever you have a thread that looks in danger of being overlooked, ie after a day or so, you can always reply to your own thread with 'BUMP', then your thread will be on first page and someone will probably jump (or stumble!) into the thread as it's right in front of them... i myself aim to be in this forum every night but i don't use all Nero products so sometimes i have to hang back... sorry you've been overlooked thus far, it's not intentional..
to add to creaky's reply, there is also a new area here in ad that allows ALL members to see new threads with little or no replies. do as creaky says, reply back to your original post and it will forward it back to the top. there are many regulars in here, such as creaky, who help out in all areas. sooner or later, you question will get answered. and an fyi, this IS a help forum, but sometimes tends to get off topic in a few areas. most of us in here are the regulars, so we often chit chat back and forth. and if it helps, i will add your link in question, maybe it will get you where you need to go. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/237727 but if i may add, if you wanted to convert your mp3 back to wav or wmv (i use music macth for that) it will do all, convert to mp3 to wav/wmv and back to the original. i have never attempted to use nero for music, but music match has a free download, and you can upgrade to pro for 20 bucks and get free updates for a year or longer i think. just a thought.
Thanks guys - at least it helps even just to know you've picked up on te thread and are trying to come up with something that might work - nothing worse than flyin' blind. Have to say though that I've never had a problem with the Nero Music tool - used to have easy cd creator 5 which was great for this kind of job but then roxio decided to cut the function from later releases. Needless to say that these days Roxio doesn't even come close to Nero. For the record the Nero tool works cool normally if you encode the mp3 to wav and then burn the music cd to disc. However In my case I've tried burning two mp3 cds expanded to wav and have have what seem like track indexing errors despite the fact I have the fix switch turned on in DVD region Free. Not sure why I'm being punished so heavily. Had a similar result about 6 months back with an original spanish Nat King Cole CD I was trying to copy from a friend - played back fine on PC but in the CD player the track listing was a complete mess and the cd copped out after about a minute. Am wondering if there's some new horror story encoding on cd's or if it's a Nero error..... Still - hope someone can help! Thanks again for the replies - nice to know I'm not completely alone n this one.
At least to show that the 'bump' thing works. *_* If Nero is giving you problems with these particular cds, why not try convert from mp3 to wav with another program (e.g. ImToo CD Ripper)? Besides, there are plenty of other free cd tools also: http://www.download.com/3150-2646_4...k=&gfiletype=&os=&li=49&dlsize=&ca=&x=26&y=13
Before I say another word - Man, I hate those loathsome pop-ups and pop-unders that litter web sites and am gonna look for solutions elsewhere in future if those f***ing nuisances aren't totally removed from this site. That said, I downloaded ImTOO CD Ripper just to say that I'd at least given it a go ti see if it is a software issue or the problem lies elsewhere. First thing I noticed ids that it does not recognise my USB drive - only the direct and virtual. Other than that encoders seem much the same as Nero - so do I need even more software on my machine? Well I'm about to test and will post later on with my findings Cheers -
if you have a pop up blocker, it will get rid of them. ad does have the pop ups, but its mostly paid advertising. have you tried windows media player or musicmatch? nero has an mp3 player too.
Tried them all - On one occasion I asked WMP to burn the wav results and got back MP3 and I had weir results with Real too - I hate both of those programs for such purposes. However with I'm too I recoded a compilation to wav and then burned it successfully to CD with Nero. I could not figure out how to actually burn with 'Im Too' and if I was on the right track it was taking forever so I quit ttrying and ended up burning with Nero. With all there other rippers and burners flying around I would still prefer to stick with Nero - I had Roxio ECDC 5,6 & 7 but 7 was virtually unusable on XP - far too memory hungry. Nero I had tried about 4 years ago, didn't like the interface and found it too complicated to work with. These days it's simply the best! I'm just not sure what were the roots of the problems I had. Maybe the fault lies in the mp3 structure orfile table and they're not 'translating' to well. Thanks for all the replies to date!
nero has come a long way, with updates and all, is now more user friendly. get the full version of nero, about 30 bucks and update often.
Have been the proud owner of the Ultra Edition since March - came bundled with my DVD0-RW and have it updated to date. Version 7 seems only weeks away! Like I said, I love Nero and am Loathe to use other programs as they are less intuitive and often less reliable. Am not sure what the root of my peroblem is/was......
Rip/convert with e.g. Imtoo, then burn with Nero --- that's what I was referring to. *_* Also, I use Maxthon, and all pop up ads (?) go to the waste basket automatically. So nothing's bothering me.
A bit off-topic here but how does Maxthon differ from Pop_Up Blocker, AdBlock and countless onther anti-spyware anti-pop up tools out there. I use firefox religiously now having been bombarded by toolbars from MSN, Google and the likes with the dreadful Internet Explorer - not worth as toss for anything yet some vendors like McAfee insist on continually using this horrendous technology! I also have JavaScript disblers etc. but even so on sites such as this one get these horrible unwelcome pop-up's and pop-unders even so. I design web sites for a living and cannot understand the mentality behind webmasters who build this 'facility' into their websites. The aim of a web site is to attract viewers and not alienate them. I guess the increase in usage of Crystal Meth in the United States might be a contributing factor in sites like these - designed by the brain-dead! Getting rid of all these dreadful features and advertising would be a redeeming factor. Just because the tasteless have long since sold their souls to the devil for 5 Cents a hit doesn't mean there can't still be a decent bullshit-free site available on the Net.
scf_au. Just on the topic of ripping with ImToo - It seems very similar to Nero vis_a_vis encoder support. Why then rip with ImToo? Is there a known problem with encoding with Nero that you know of? I only ask as these days it seems common to have 3 or more tools for every task. And when you have a lot of tasks ranging from burning music to graphic creation, photo editing, movie editing this all adds up....... Am trying to keep application additions to the minimum on my machine these days. I'm wondering if Micro$oft will ever get the message that a lot of folk are very pissed off with Windows XP (not only Me) so why do they not do the moral and decent thing for once in trying to make a product that actually works and gives value for Money (Intellimouse excepted - they've never done this) instead of suckering us all in with the next generation of the same muck that's gonna wreck our heads even more (Namely Longhorn or 'Vista' as they now call it!) Good Luck Uncle Bill and good riddance as I'm saving up to buy a few Macs.
Dear umagumma, I bow to your hunger for knowledge! *_* Re. web browsers, I just tested the more popular ones and found Maxthon to my liking: highly compatible with IE, many more functions, much less worry for security, and draining less computer resources. Re. Imtoo, I was just naming it because Nero is not a very good encoder, and that I happen to like ImToo products very much. But you're right about softwares these days. I've been keeping 2-4 different programs for every job, and still keep looking out for better alternatives. That's probably why so many people are surfing the net day in and day out. Cheers!
scf_au Good to hear back from you as always. JUst a question - Have you tried Firefox as an alternative. I was helping out on a few spyware forums last year when it was launched and took to it like a duck to water. It's heaps safer than IE and it's much easier to find links etc. It has some wonderful and helpful plug-ins to boot. I have at least one recent version of the 4 main players on my machine Opera/Netscape/IE and Firefox and put IE at the bottom of the pile. Maybe I am totally unfair to Micro$oft - they actually have one useful software related item in their arseal - Their anti-spyware tool! Maybe they can quit all other activity and concentrate on something they're actually good at and gives value for money (this is currently free to 'genuine' partners). Like you more or lest suggest it's a case of 'different strokes for different folks' and like you I have had various alternatives installed for different tasks but am now intent on trying to streamline my machine as much as possible. Of course I still take a look at new stuff and sometimes replace current programs if the new offers significant improvement. I was not sure about Nero's encoder but you mention hesitantly that it's not great and I gather for that reason you have ImToo on your system. Are Nero aware of this problem and will it be addressed in Version 7? I have been delighted with Version 6 - Unlike Roxio which got worse as it evolved and is so memory hungry now it's unusable.
IMHO I use Nero Recode regularly and find it to be a very good encoder. It is by the same person who developed Shrink so how different can it be. It is much faster than Shrink, the only difference is that you have to go into the regedit to change your quality enhancements, where you can just do it through the settings in Shrink.
@arniebear That's interesting. What form do the enhancements take and how are they implemented? Is there a guide out there?
@attar Here is the thread that explains the various AEC settings in Recode. They range from Max Sharp to Max Smooth just like Shrink. You need to go into regedit to change these. The Default is Sharp just like Shrink. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/7/146923 Here is a breakdown of the settings for the Recode AEC options Sharp - default [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero Recode\Preferences] "CompressMode"=dword:00000002 Maximum sharpness [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero Recode\Preferences] "CompressMode"=dword:00000003 Smooth [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero Recode\Preferences] "CompressMode"=dword:00000001 Maximum smoothness [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero Recode\Preferences] "CompressMode"=dword:00000000 In order to set these AEC settings you must have used Recode at least once so the program has its value's set.
