i have this motherboard p5pe-vm and its restarting by itself after a few second i just see bios then it turns off...then i wait for it to cool down for a few minutes when i turn it on again i entered the bios and saw the temperature 99c/200f something like that is that hot??
Looks like more than just heatsink faults there.. I regularly run machines for 5-10 minutes with no heatsinks to check the thermal cutouts. Are the core volts correct?
Yea, could be a software problem or a hardware problem as well. What's the rest of your system running like? How's your memory usage? I use to have a laptop with a 64-bit AMD Athlon and while running spy-bot, it would cause the laptop to shutdown. This was due to all the stress that was being put on the cpu - it was over heating. Some programs you could be running might be CPU intensive.
yeah i've checked all of the hardware's and the heatsink is properly installed..my client just bought his CPU to my house at first when i open it i thought it was a trashcan coz its full of dirtDUSTs hehe i cleaned it for 30 minutes...even the processor got this dust all over...when i finished cleaning i tried to turn on the power then the temperature drop down to 87c something like that...and the thermal grease is like a clay should i buy another thermal grease???coz i think the grease never changed for a long time i think 6 or 7 years like that...tnx guys for your help
Touch the heatsink when it's on. Is it burning hot? What's your processor and what heatsink do you have?
the processor is pentium 4 2.0ghz something and the heatsink is a normal heatsink wouldnt that electrify me if i touch the heatsink??
No, it won't electrify you, unless for some odd reason there is electricity going through the heatsink... Don't worry, nothing will happen. Just take caution as it may be hot, I doubt it though.
PCs use 12V which is harmless. CPUs use an even lower voltage, typically less than 1.5. On top of that, CPUs don't have 'exposed' electricity anyway, there is no voltage applied to the heatsink or the CPU when the PC is turned on.

that is still to hot as should be in the 30's or low 40's at idle. did you completely remove the old heatsink compound off the cpu & heatsink? how much thermal compound did you use?
