OK guys I have got my dreambox 500S working fine now - I receive all FTA and Free Sat channels. Someone kindly gave me there c line and I got that also working. Now I receive all the channels off sly.

The only thing I am not sure of is when I am changing channels I see a delay of 5 seconds to 90 seconds for the channel to appear. Its instant when changing to FTA or Freesat channels but its quite annoying waiting for the sub sly channels to appear.

Is this normal or not, if not how can I optimize it

    Thanks

Are you getting glitching or freezing on the sub channels ?

Only few of the sub channels mainly on Asian channels. No freeze on the normal FTA Asian channels though.

I would think it has to do with the network, (either on your end or on the server end), too many connections to the server might cause it or slow reponse time between you and the server).

This might be the case. My network is perfect as I am a networking guy myself. I have a 50MB download and 1.5MB upload. So it could be the server is either too far away or has too many connections.

I just wanted to make sure this is not normal if no networking issue is in place.

So just to confirm, all the sub channels should change instantly like the FTA ones do if no network or load issue are there?

There is probably a collection of reasons for this speed issue, one issue is the network speed (but you seem to be pretty confident about that but make sure your port is open and forwarded correctly), second is the number of hops you are on from your server. Hop1 is better than Hop2, direct peer exchange would be best but if you are connected to server then you are more than likely on a hop1 or hop2. And finally, one way of speeding up the channel change is to use a .prio file. G00gle for cccam.prio file which only inculdes the sly uk idents. This file (when ftp'd to the same location/directory as your .config file) will tell your dreambox that you want channels with the sly uk idents to take priority over anything else during a channel change. I have a .prio file in both my dm800hd and my dm500s and channels change immediatly (although I am sharing with a good peer too).

I had no idea I had to open a port. I thought I would only need to open a port if my box was the server.

My peer sent me this in an email

    "Here is mine:

    Hop1: 18
    Hop2: 184

    C: xyz.xyz.xyz 15000 username password no { 0:0:2 }

I have no idea what the Hop1 and Hop2 mean. Also I do not know what { 0:0:2 } means. Can some one further comment on that.

The only hops I know is when i do a tracert I could see how many hops it takes to get to the destination. By running a tracert I get 9 hops and it seems my peer is somewhere in germany.

Also if I have to open a port would it be 12000 which is the default or 15000

I will g))gle the .prio file and see if that helps with the speed.

    Thanks for sharing the info

As far as I am aware you are correct in that you do not need to open a port unless you are the server.

Hop1 means that the server you are connected to is the one with the card in it, Hop2 would mean that the card is in a box 2 hops away from you (so you are connected to a box that is sharing already and he is passing that share onto you).

First I have heard of a prio file, must give that a try at some stage!!
