I only have 2 slots available so 2x 2 gig sticks would be best. Oh and I realize "6 gigs is overkill" I just want to go for smug factor.
If you want to waste money, go for it.. With out knowing what mobo you have we cant help. Grab CPU-Z if you dont know.
It's an asus pk5. I am not sure of the exact type, I am not on my normal desktop and don't have access to it until later.
@andmill11 You need DDR2 1066 in all slots. The 800 shouldnt even work on your mobo and if it does its holding it back. Even then the 800 sticks would be slowing down the 1066 sticks limiting there bandwidth and wasting money.
Alright here is my motherboard I currently have 32bit XP but I bought windows 7 64 bit ultimate edition from university for when I get my new RAM. Any suggestions on what I should get? Should I just get the RAM I picked out and forget about the other two sticks that are currently in there?
1066 DOES work faster....but I'm not exactly sure if 6GB being held back to 800 will work better than 4 GB working at 1066....BUT, they are both better than getting another 2GB of what you have and running 4GB at 800.
Hmm. Well I wouldn't mind getting a second opinion on this. I am leaning towards just getting 4 gigs of the 1066 and forgetting about the RAM in there right now.

According to the ASUS website it supports 800? But then according to newegg it doesn't. How is this even possible? I figured I would just end up getting those anyways. Thanks.
Listen to Xplorer, he knows his stuff. Mixing 800 and 1066 isn't a good idea. Unless things have changed since I last checked (and I haven't checked in a while since I only match identical sticks of ram to ensure compatibility) but ram will work at the lowest stick you have, so having 2GB of 800 and adding 4GB of 1066 will put you at 6GB of 800... better off selling the old stick and buying new 1066...

The specs are the same. The only difference is probably trust in the manufacturer and reliability. Check out what people are saying in the reviews. Also, check your motherboard....make sure the RAM is supported. I had to change the RAM on my build because what I had wasn't supported.
Well seeing as ASUs actually makes the mobo, id trust them more then NewEgg. As much as I love NewEgg they have a tendency to leave out little details. For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...mList=N82E16814125302,N82E16814102865&bop=And It should list OpenGL3.1 on both, but instead the Sapphire card doesnt even have an OpenGL version listed. So you should be fine in terms of the mobo supporting the 800 sticks, however it will hold back performance. So this doesnt give you an idea of its long term reliability. The OCZ sticks are cheap, because well there cheap. Now I havent heard of any OCZ horror stories, but I know they generally dont Oc well, and there simply not as high quality. The best brands to look at are Corsair,G.Skill and Patriot.
