    when i open a mpeg file its a dat file instead how do i change the file from dat to mpeg?

    Just extract the .dat file and manually rename to .mpg. I'm assuming you're talking about a VCD/SVCD image.

    That's it.

    BTW, you can also use VCDGear to extract.
