A small and stupid story of the decay of society in general. A long long time ago.....well about for weeks ago i was sat at home and had fell asleep early about 7 o'clock and missed out on dinner. My girlfriend had gone to bed and I woke up at around midnight. I was hungry and the cupboards were bare because it was the end of the week shop day tomorrow. I looked for a takeaway that was still open and ordered a curry. Anyway about half an hour later the door went and there was an Asian dude with my late supper in hand. It came to £9.60 and all I had was a £20 note. In the takeaways wisdom they had sent him out presuming I would pay with a £10 note so he only had 40p change. So started the stand off he wouldn't give me the food until I paid and wouldn't give him the money until he gave me the correct change. After 10 minutes of deliberating the hunger got the better of me. I gave him the £20 note and all he kept saying was "I make a lot of deliveries around here I will bring you your change tomorrow trust me" So I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I thought to myself that this is one of them tests of human integrity and society in general like finding a wallet on the floor and handing it in to the police and such like. So what happened? Well nothing I didn't receive my change back he stole it. He figured that I was hungry after a night out on the piss and would forget about the money.
So just go to where he works and ask for the change, I'm sure they have a record of the deliveries made and to what addresses.
It's not worth it.. let it go. I find people who commit petty crimes like that end up as the real losers.. i.e you probably won't buy from there again.. I would have paid for it though, too -- I love a good s*** in a hurry..
If i were you id go back their and beat his bones untill he gave you double of what he owed. I would not of got charged with assult on the guy because i would of wore a mask. But then he would know that it was em becasue of the money he owed you. Oh well if then i would find my self in court i would simply say it wasent me because they have no solid evedince.
I thought there would be varying degrees of answers. All valid but i am not going to cause mountain out of a mole hill. ok he nicked a tenner its not the money but more about the principal and my disappointment. I could go and beat the snot out of him. That would not be right and put me down to his level, then again i could practise my Jujitsu so it would be educational. Karma will do a job on him for me i hope.
the moral of the story is,ye should of sent him back with the food to get change and demand a freash curry. as the delivery guy should of had change for a £20 note..
and thats when you'll get their "take-out special" believe it or not, but this actually happend about an hour ago. i work at a bank and on the way to the parking garage, myself and a coworker came across someone's driver license laying on the pavement, and i ended up taking it home. i looked up the kids phone number, so figured i should call and let him or his parents know someone found his license. the father was not too happy, but the wife seemed releaved. i am a member of the military and am fortunate to receive the training and briefings that i get. identity theft is very real, serious, and a person's license carrys vital information....im not trying to sound like a saint, but there are honest individuals out there.
ok so you gave him double what you owed him, here's some justice for you. order the same thing again but have it delivered to the address across the street when no one is home. you'll get the joy of seeing him sit there and bang on the door for 20 minutes trying to deliver his goods. you get to sit back and have a chuckle and no one gets hurt. (one of these days i really need to find out what this curry stuff is)
Darthnip, had the Gods discovered curry before creamed rice pud they would have called it Ambrosia. b.t.w. curry is usually served in England on a Saturday night at 11.30pm on a full stomach of beer and is usually accompanied by much swearing and racial abuse, from people who must really like the taste of bodily fluids in their food.
Curry is a type of food made by blending spices and sauces and cooked in a variety of ways. Curry can contain vegetables or indeed any meat you can name. Relatively most people have some idea how they would like to end their mortal existence on this planet. Some would like to go quietly in their sleep while others would prefer to 'kick the bucket' while making love. My own personal preference though would have to be 'Death By Curry'. To find a curry so hot and so mean that it would render me lifeless on the spot. In becoming a well rounded curry eater practice is essential if you want to eat the hotter curries like the madras, vindaloo or phall. That's why I have felt compelled to share my recipe database with you! So someday you too will be able to experience 'Death By Curry'. Taxi drivers are notorious for that in Philly....they give you a ride then tell you they have no change. My guess is they get away with it most of the time...usually out of town folks on business or coming in from the burbs. They don't try it often with the actual city residents who are accoustomed to their tricks.
Sounds like a good ploy gerry if they can get away with it. I'll remember that if I ever get back to Philly and will defo buy the SEPTA, week travel card and take the bus.
Gerry, i had a similar experience with a cabby in new york, i only had a 20 and i owed him like 11 bucks, and he didn't have enough change, i told him i wasn't his bloody pension fund and that he'd have to get more change.. after 10 minutes of trying to argue with me, and me being as calm as a cow in a hindu community, and just telling him no over and over again, he decided he'd go and find more change. I think the fact that my Gi was sticking out of my gymbag showing a brown belt wasn't too comforting for him either though
@the Fiend...yeah, that probably had a lot to do with it too! I imagine they do that in all the big cities and probably have it down to a science when it comes to sizing up who they can and can't rip off. I too have spent time just sitting as the driver runs around (or pretends to) trying to get change. I'll bet they actually steal a bundle though! Philly actually does a decent job regulating taxis but there are a lot of "gypsies" around...you need to look for a city madaillion welded to the hood (bonnet) of the car.
excellent, now i have a better understanding of the curry world. the way i see it, anything that winds up in a bowl mixed around with other stuff can be curry. sweet, now i'm one step closer to my curry empire!! muhuhahahahahaha
Curry really is a universal food. It mixes with anything, even after a heavy night of sex'n'drugs'n'rock'n'roll leftover curry is a great way to start the day...just don't mix it with your Sugar Puffs ;-)
