i ripped it, converted to avi and then mux'd it but the movie is about 1.3gig and wont fit onto the disc when i attempt to burn it. what can i do to get it onto the disc without losing the movies quality.... i also have an avi of mallrats which is about 500 meg which also does not fit onto the disc when i attempted to burn it. if it helps i use a program called "my dvd" by "sonic"
If you are trying to get 1.3gig onto a blank dvd media, it should be no problem with size. Blank dvd media has about 4.4gig of space. Must be something you are doing wrong or settings in your program. If you are ripping a dvd, why are you converting it to AVI format? Your info isn't telling us enough. Jerry
lol i added the program i used (my dvd by sonic)....and as for avi i dont really know why i guess its set in my mind as my default video file prefrence, anyway perhaps i should convert the files to another format or even convert the vob into another format, maybe could i get a list of programs to try out that can convert my rips into suitable video files for ripping my dvd but so long as it has great quality...... im not exactly the best at explaining stuff so i hope that helps u help me lol
i have 2 scenarios.... scenario 1. ripping dvd with smart ripper, then turning it into an avi with dvd2avi (subject to change the last step) and then using avi mux to give it sound...the only problem is that it says it wont fit onto the disc..... scenario 2. i hvae an avi of a movie that is about 400-500 meg i think and it also does not fit so maybe if i change it to a diferent format it might be better but im not sure.... or perhaps my program i use "mydvd by sonic" is just playing up..... i hope that extra info helps
If you are trying to fit the AVI onto a CD-R which stores considerably less that a gig, then you have a problem but you have plenty of room to fit your file onto a DVD-/+R. If you are trying to make a DVD to DVD back up then you shouldn't be converting the file into AVI first. Download a copy of DVD Shrink (which is freeware and available here on Afterdawns web site), it will rip and compress your DVD into compatible mpeg2 without a need to convert to AVI. It will also be much faster. If you have a copy of Nero to burn with even better, if not, you can buy a copy of 6X express verion on the internet for $10. which will work just fine. I agree with the Nero/DVD Shrink process Sophocles mentioned. Also, if you do not have Nero, you can get DVD Decrypter (which is also free) and it will work just fine in place of Nero. I personally use Nero because I already have it, but have also had great results with DVD Decrypter.
thank you ill try the dvd shrink thing and ill get back to you if that wont work i might try to purchase the thing which said is just ten dollars....
ok i used dvdshrink but it didnt turn it into an mpeg2 it does the same thing that smart ripper did for me i will try to find a program that converts the vob to mpeg2 until i can read the next post....
Hello, I've been using dvd decrypter to burn my dvd movies, but when the movie is to large for the blank dvd I try to burn it with dvd shrink and it won't let me take out enough from the dvd movie so I can burn it. I also have nero but I don't use it to burn. My question is how do I burn a dvd 9 movie onto a blank dvd to fit? Its very frustrating
Shrink is used for ripping and compressing the movie without it first being converted to AVI. It won't convert an AVI to mpeg2. Use the original copy of the DVD and then use DVD Shrink to rip its contents which are already in mpeg 2 format, and then compress it to a smaller but still mpeg2 format package for burning. You can use DVD Decrypter which is also free to burn. Use AD and Doom9 guides to help you get it right the first time. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvddec.htm _X_X_X_X_X_[small]"Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
