divx to dvd....i see it everyhwhere but i can't get a flat out explanation in lamen terms. This last 2 weeks ive been on this forum trying to figure out everything i need to know to burn dvds but its all jargon to me. For the love of god, does anyone know a way i can easily put divx to dvdr withought having to download 50,000 programs wrtten in gibberish?????? I dont want to sound rude, its just that ive been on here for hours with a raging migrane and i give up reading hundreds of guides that im not even sure are what I want. Please someone help?
I'll try and break it down as best I can and then you should have enough ammo to take on the guides. Sound like a plan? First, what you have are divx files. They're .avi files that have been shrunk using the divx codec. Most older DVD players don't recognize this type of file, but many new ones do. In order for all dvd players to recognize the file, you need to convert these divx files (avi's) to MPEG-2. This requires to you encode the divx file. To encode you can use a bunch of programs. Easy one click programs (nero for example), and multistep software (TMPGEnc for example) is available. If you want better quality, then multistep is the way to go. So, if you do the one click programs, you merely need to find the avi file, and create an mpeg and the one click program automatically puts it into files that you can burn directly to dvd. If you use a multistep process, you need to first convert it to mpeg-2 (encode it) and then author it, which creates your menus and files in the proper format. Then you need to burn it. So multistep process: Encode, Author, Burn. That help get you started?
Mmmm...I think avi2dvd is another....and winavi and vso. Try those names out. I don't tend to use them so I'm not sure which is the better to go with.
VSO Divx2DVD http://www.vso-software.fr/products/divxtodvd/divxtodvd.php I use this all the time. Pick the file, pick a directory to save to, and start. Converts it straight into a VIDEO_TS folder with 5 minute chapter breaks ready to burn and watch.
Ok this maybe the answer I am looking for in a post which nobody answered. I know how to convert AVI to Mpeg2 (with WinAvi). Now, what exactly is "authoring"? and how do I do that? Thanks again for your help.
Authoring means taking the MPEG2 file you make and using a program like DVD Lab, TMPGEnc DVD Author, or any other app made for DVD Authoring to add DVD menus, chapters, and such. BAsically, it takes the video file and let's you make a DVD out of it. Divx2DVD takes a video file and converts it straight to VOB files that are ready to be burned for viewing. You can take those files and use one of the above authoring apps to make menus and such, or burn straight to DVD and have no menu or extras. A really good resource if you haven't found it yet is www.videohelp.com There are some good forums here at Afterdawn, but videohelp.com is probably the biggest single resource online for help and advice.
