I signed on to iTunes to find that new Tool song and the only thing that comes back is listings for Tool tribute bands. So I typed Led Zeppelin and got a listing of tribute bands. What gives?

well, for one, the itunes store sucks. ^.^

lots of people, in my observations, are having issues with them as of late. if you're sure you're using the right search setting and whatnot, then just try an itunes alternative or buy the actual cd.

I will see about these "search settings". I thought one could simply type an artist's name in the search box and their entire catalogue would come up. Thanks.

Not every artist agrees to put their collection on the internet. Led Zeppelin is a band that has not agreed to do it and almost definetly never will. To really appreciate Led Zeppelin music you need the fullness of the record or CD anyway. Their belief in an album as a whole and not songs as singles is probably also another reason they do not want to sell music online.

typically, if an album has more than one song worth picking up online, the whole album is worth buying. all in all, it doesn't really cost that much to buy a few CDs here and there, and you have yourself some physical entity, not DRM'ed, digitized and degraded monkey droppings. but that's me :)

My rule of thumb is if the album has atleast 5 good songs pick it up! There is always limewire.

I wasn't aware that artists don't want to sell their material without going out as a compilation. I think the days of the "artist" are over. At the same time, I believe that all music should be paid for; we all gotta make a living. In the 60's and 70's the "get paid" mentality would have been part of the "sell out" arguement.
These days, if you aren't a Rapper then you are fighting for a decent existence and a piece of the pie.
I'll pluck around the iTunes store since I have a credit on account.
    Thanks.
