Im sorry if this has been said before which it probably has but after converting an xvid movie i play it back through windows media player and im noticing that the frames are jumping every 2secs or so. Also im noticing that around the characters body theres a bit of distortion as if the pictures smudging (hard to explain!), this is only around the top part of the body and not actually in the overall picture of the film. The only codec i have installed is the Codec Pack All in 1 6.0.2.9 which incs: - DivX 6.0.3 - XviD Codec 1.0.3 - DivX, XviD - FFDShow 17.02.2005 Alpha - MPEG2 2.0.0.0 - Subtitles G400 2.83 - Subtitles DVobSub (Win9x, Win2k and WinXP) 2.23, 2.33 - OGG Vorbis 0.9.9.5 - AC3 1.01a RC5 - Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher 0.99 thx if anyone of you can help this retard out
have you converted from dvd to xvid or xvid to dvd? I'd try another player first like power dvd or something. my lower spec pc has problems with HDTV files (wmvHD) in media player and skips all over the place but when I use power dvd it plays just fine. also your xvid codec isnt the latest.. you can get it from here... http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ how did you convert the movie? the smudging sounds like a possible bit rate issue? mpeg streams work with a structure called GOP structure. in basic terms this takes the data which isnt moving (movie background) and then takes the information which is (difference between last frame and next) and then has a prediction of what the next frame will contain so some parts of the structure are complete images and others are partial (in simple terms). so id guess the smudging is around the areas of the parts on screen which are moving.. now the bitrate can be fixed or variable (sorry if you know this already) but a fixed bitrate may not look so good when the movie needs to use more bitrate to display more movement etc.. it all depends on what movie, what you converted it from and to and how it was done. first thing is check the player and codecs since this is quickest and wont involve re-encoding. http://www.rita.lt/guides/AutoGK_DVDtoAVI.htm this is one of the simplest ways to convert DVD to quality Xvid, this tutorial is half about ripping with dvd decryptor (something I'm sure you can already do) so I'd give this a look, it calculates bitrates and things very well, you can control output by size, quality etc and get varying results depending on the settings. Auto GK is a great place to start- its loads more powerful than one click applications but much less complex than Guardian knot etc. hope this helps. nico
Hey thx for replying I think the smudging is quite possibly the film as someone else i know has the same problem with that movie. Im converting xvid to dvd and im using winavi and also cucusoft. Ive also uninstalled that codec and put the latest k-lite pack on but again im seeing a slight jump in the frames most noticebly when someone is walking etc. Also can i point out that the other film i mentioned which has the smudging converted with np's and the frames are smooth etc so im really stumped as to why this other film is doing so !? Ive put it through windows media, real player and classic player. This is the 3rd film that seem's to suffer and ive only had this problem since i reformatted. p.s. i hope this makes sense as im at work and shouldnt be using the pc so the post was a bit rushed hehe
