I post to this thread not really knowing if this is the proper thread. If it is posted incorrectly please accept my apology. I recently acquired a movie that was ripped using the .mkv format. I'm trying to burn the movie to a DVD5 only to realize that the file resides at 4.38GB(4484MB) which is unbelievably only about 2MB too big. Is there any nice way to shrink this file by about 2MB so that it will fit on a DVD5 beside (hopefully) Winrar? (I can't begin to think how long Winrar will chew on this 4+GB file to shrink it!) Any suggestion would surely be welcomed. ~ grinnZ ~
Assuming the files are now in DVD format in a folder. DVD Shrink. Open Files. Backup. Save the output to a new folder. If Nero is installed you will be offered the choice to burn the disk - else just save it to the folder and burn with your favourite burning program (which should be Imgburn). http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm
DVD Shrink is the first program about which I thought yet the fact is that the movie still resides as a .mkv file. With that said let me ask a followup question. Is it possible to convert from .mkv > DVD formats? If that is possible then shrinking with DVD Shrink is a snap. ~ grinnZ ~
Perhaps I should have searched before I posted. I have found a few posts that address just that question. I'm going to see if I can't solve my own problem and will return with questions or success status. ~ grinnZ ~
