When burning to dvd's, I have noticed that Nero seems to be setup for 'disc at once'..

Recordnow is setup for 'track at once'....

Basically, could this have any relevance to so many porblems being encountered around the forums......

I say this as, around the forum alot of users (inc me) have issues with Nero but not with Recordnow....

Please note, this is not a problem I am having as I use Recordnow.......

Just wondered if anyone could post some comments on the DAO and TAO and their relevance in terms of burning to dvd - what difference can they make.....

    Cheers.....

Will i know that in Record Now, if the TAO is not closed it will not be read by a DVD player unless it uses a DVS Loader.

Strange no-one really has anything to say on DAO and TAO.....

Well maybe this theory may entice you.......

We know DAO is designed to keep the laser on during the burn and closes the disc...

We also know that TAO inserts slight pauses, mainly for audio purposes (but does not affect data transfer) and does not close the disc...

We also know that Recodnow has the option of TAO with the closed option.....

    MY theory:

2 things really, firstly could the amount of info being burned ie File size - be having an impact on the closing phase within Nero - could someone who is having the the problems of successful burns but no cigar - try and reduce the overall file size again to see if it works then?

Second thing, we know that during finalising that the software writes certain info regarding where/dvdrewiter/ etc into the overheads - now could this be a bug within Nero where the info written, for some obscure reason will not allow players/dvdrom's to read it etc......

    hi all,

Well to date nero has been great for me! i use nero v5.0.0.42 i have just downloaded v6 for a trial test... i will do the same things i have done with nero v5 and see if v6 has any problems? it all seems odd that there seems to be alot of unhappy people with nero? could it also be a factor that people are say new users and are getting the settings wrong on burn? what i am trying to say is it may not be nero just user error? even down to eide connection it may prefer master drive status rather than slave? or even be on its own? who knows all i know is i burn mega cdr's fine! on real cheapo no name crap dics and work great, i've done only a couple of dvd-r's and also not just straight dvd to dvd-r i have done NTSC to PAL conversion added menus and mucked about about and they play on stand alones with nero v5 of course. i think we must just keep an eye on it as it may be user error? as we cant be sat next to people who say they have problems, although thats not to say either that they have done something wrong?

or am i just lucky in setup of PC and standalone? as the stand alone used is called compacks (no name from safeways supermarket! £49) it plays cdr/svcd/Ritek 4x dvd-r/packard bell 1x dvd-rw/ntsc, not tried dvd+r or dvd+rw yet though!...

    *stay tuned!*

Thanks for your response, it could well be an accumulation of weird PC setup and user errors....

Still there are many people who I have been trying to help with their own Nero issues including my father, but to know avail....Nero just would not work for them, even though nero reported that the burn was successful and files seemed to be in place...etc etc....

It just don't add up to me, and it really has me intrigued (even though I do not use Nero myself, but Recordnow DX)....

The only main difference I have found between the 2 are that Nero seems to only be able to do the DAO option, whereas Recordnow DX chooses the TAO closed option.....

I am thinking the problem may lie on long those lines or something to do with the overheads that are written to the disc.....

Am still gonna ponder about this.....but thanks

    hi all

    ** Notes for nero **

In nero v5 i use the 2 addons! which are nero dvd plugin encoder and nero mpeg2 encoder now do other peoiple use these or not with there nero?

also are these needed for version v6?

are people useing an original nero package or a downloaded hacked or patched version? it may be like CDRWIN put a bad serial in and woopee shit currupt burns?

also i did not see the option for TAO in the new v6 nero? although i think its more audio cda format stuff music cds to stop start on each track burnt! but i think DAO is better? not sure with that? i burn music on nero v5 with DAO and all come out fine! i never use TAO!

I think TAO has an issue for better cdr burns on game discs!?! with securom and safedisc protection!?! another game all together! so lets move on!

Also to note that nero v6 has OVERBURN SET "ON" by default! could this be an issue as outer edge data causes problems on standalones (choppy video) ?

ok, all there is more food for thought for the pot to stir around abit!

i will investigate more! i am going to burn a dvd-rw film with the new nero and get back to you!

    Thx...
