I have a VIDEO_TS file of a movie which shows it 4.4Gb in size (in windows explorer). I have tried to burn it to a DVD-R disc but it says that there is not enough space on the disc; it says that there is 4,509Mb to be recorded and there is only 4,489Mb space available on the disc! But why is this when the DVD-R says it is 4.7GB in size? why can't it fill the disc? and is there a way around this problem? (preferably without making the movie into two discs!) thank you for any help I am using Nero 7 ultra edition, if this is any help for the advise i may receive.
Another quick question; are there blank dvds available that are larger than 4.7Gb? or if it was bigger, would it no longer be a dvd?
A so called 4.7Gb disk is acutally 4464Mb in size (all to do with how Mbs are measured - btwn 1000 and 1012). It comes down to sales pitch vs reality. For movies you can use programs such as DVD Shrink and Nero Recode to reduce size. You can buy dual layer DVD's that will copy up to approximately 8Gb
also do dual layer dvds, play on most modern stand alone dvd players? mine was bought new about two months ago and supports divx and the like. So would you think it would play dual layer discs to?
To answer your questions. No, for the little bit of compression you need there will be no quality loss in your picture. I personally prefer Shrink, but the choice is yours... they are both fantastic. Yes modern dvd players will play double layer dvds as that is what the original movies you buy and rent are done on DL dvd's
That's not exactly true, and a -R can hold a bit more than a +R. Nero pegs it at: Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) To the OP, in the past I had problems with large images that Nero would choke on, but could be burned by DVDDecryter. Give ImgBurn a shot in the 'Build" mode and see if that works. There have been many 4,509Mb downloads floating around.
