Hey guys. I was wondering about backing up my DVD's with DivX and had a few questions, really to see if its worth my while. Forgive if they sound crazy as I am just sort of starting out with this. I have a few DivX movies on my hard drive (Hannibal Rising, Star Trek, Mission Impossible, Girls Gone Wild)and they play fine when I connect them to the projector with my laptop. My questions are: 1. How do I get more than one movie on a DVD? If I don't have a couple to put on one DVD, do I wait until I do? 2. What software do I need to purchase to create DivX? 3. Why does it take so long (overnight) to record one movie? 4. Is it worth it to record in DivX? 5. I have a Studio 17 from Dell laptop? Is this enough to record with Divx? 6. Is there a link or site I can go to to see what I need? Thanks in advance for any help you guy and gals can give me. If you have any questions, please ask and I'll answer.
My questions are: 1. How do I get more than one movie on a DVD? If I don't have a couple to put on one DVD, do I wait until I do? Do you want to keep them as a Divx or convert to a DVD Video compilation? If want to keep them as Divx, then I'd get a DVD RW 2. What software do I need to purchase to create DivX? You don't need to purchase any software. You'll need DVDFab Decrypter(free) to rip the movie to your HDD and a software to convert to Divx/Xvid- AutoGK, Handbrake, FairUse Wizard (just to name a few). All free. 3. Why does it take so long (overnight) to record one movie? By record, you mean "convert"? It all depends on how powerful your computer is , video processing is CPU intensive. A Studio 17 should be fine(I think is dual core?), shouldn't take more than ~2hrs per movie. 4. Is it worth it to record in DivX? Thousands of people do it, use it, so it must be okay. If you're looking to have good quality and save HDD space, certainly. 5. I have a Studio 17 from Dell laptop? Is this enough to record with Divx? See no.3 6. Is there a link or site I can go to to see what I need? Yes, Afterdawn.com
Hello, I have a philip dvd upconvert dvd player that plays divx just fine and I usually can back up 2-6 divx files depending on thier size onto standard dvd's and leave them in the divx format,by doing this I require no extra software I simply open Windows Media Player 11 insert a blank dvd, click on burn and drag the files from my video library into the burn list very simple. Now if you are wanting to create a dvd to play in a regular dvd player I would reccomend Convertx to DVD from vso software http://www.vso-software.fr/ it burns very quickly has lots of options and you can create menus set it for 4x3 standard tv or 16x9 widescreen tv and they have a forum with lots of extra giudes and tips its work every penny and no its not free. Now if I want to convert one of my DVD's to Divx I use Gordian Knot AutoGK its freeware will cost you nothing and Afterdawn has a guide right here http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd_to_avi_using_autogk.cfm It is time consuming and I reccomend at least a dual core system with 2gb ram for fastest conversion rates. Since your kinda new to this I also reccomend DVDFab HD Decrypter for ripping those protected dvd's to your Hard Drive its freeware also and you can get it here http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm now if you want to convert files to play on you Ipod,PSP or other PMP you can use PSP Video 9 http://www.pspvideo9.com/ your lucky to be apart of afterdawn here with a little searching you can find guides and forums for just about anything good luck and enjoy.
congratulations.. every time you drag and drop into wmp you are sending details of what you are burning along with your ip to a host of mafiaa affiliates XD
cyprusrom - 1. I want them as DivX and I do have a DVD RW. 2. I have DVDFAB Platinum. Will that work also? 3. Yes, Studio 17 is dual core. I guess all I need is AutoGK, Handbrake etc.? And to learn how to do it.
You pretty much have everything you need. AutoGK, Handbrake are freely available and there are numerous guides. DVDFab Platinum is able to convert itself to an AVI(Divx/Xvid), but not sure about the quality. So, I'd use DVDFab to rip the DVD to your hard drive, and then use one of the dedicated converters(AutoGK...) to convert to Divx. You should be good. Not sure about how much RAM you have, but the conversion is not as much taxing on the RAM as much is on the CPU, so a dual core will do it( and in less time than "overnight" !)
